V. Carter is at receiver per narduzzi presser

Yeah but I smell a lot of those slow developing wideout screens that go nowhere...

Seriously I hope it is more an indicator that one (or two) of our more 'traditional' TBs are showing promise and this is just a way to leverage this guy's talent too.

At the time the move to RB I had fears he had nice speed, but not necessarily that innate sense great TBs seem to naturally have of just when to wiggle, when to waggle, when to cut, when to just lower the shoulder, etc. Lets hope at least ONE of the guys have this.

1. It’s more important Ffrench gets the ball then anyone on the roster.

2. Carter is only a sophomore he’ll get his due as he develops.

3. His wiggle must be limited or he would be returning punts. As most great slot receivers do.

4. Hope he and all the panthers have a great year

Agree. He is our best weapon. Like Carter he has the speed, but he can also break tackles due to having probably 20 pounds more muscle.

I don’t think enough ppl realize how great of an athlete Ffrench is. He is a legit threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball as a return man, WR, sweeps or even out of the backfield (was a great RB in HS, 1375 yds as a Sr with a crazy 13 yards per run).

I believe having an OC who knows what he is doing will take full advantage of the talent Ffrench has.

This has whipples stamp all over it. I’m not anointing the
guy before we see his play calling and use of sets/talent. BUT,
this is a good start. Placing your weapons in the most strategic
position. With him and FFrench ...you got speed to burn...stretch
the d.......I look at this like the run and shoot philosophy...note
Philosophy you put speed at the corners and slot. Even if Carter
runs slants on a lb via crossing pattern....lb has to cover in some
instances......he can break these...not to mention, like others
have suggested end arounds.....

Good first indication that Narduzzi is loosening up and adjusting to
Today’s game...plus letting his OC run things....

Jmho

Didn't read most of this thread but Whipple probably did come in and say yeah we have some good RBS and Wrs already.. let's use this converted FAST DB as a ........ fill in the blank.
Honestly I wasn't impressed by V Carter last year. He had UNO good game.

Carter is extremely quick but didn't look to have top speed like Ffrench that would be needed to consistently stretch a D.

We also have enough good WR's.
Yeah but the tip 3 are seniors, compared to all younger running backs, and Tipton can't be counted on to stay healthy... so better opportunity and as a Runningback I don't see him getting many carries due to his size.

Carter and Ffrench have speed and cut quickness that have to be respected, this will open up short curls and crosses. I am very much looking forward to seeing Pickett to Mathews and Mack this season, which in turn will benefit the long game.

Ok which one is your kid....our receivers are “mediocre” at best
I honestly don't think anyone outside the program can really know what we have at WR one way or the other beyond Ffrench and Mack. They are certainly proven P5 level receivers, the rest is a mystery primarily due to lack of opportunity over the last couple of years. I suspect we have some pretty capable players at the position who just haven't had live game reps to show it yet.

Speed is important but consider Julian Edelman who makes NFL corners look silly ran only a 4.52 Combine 40. And our great Dion Lewis ran a 4.57.

I read somewhere that Carter would get frustrated when he couldn't get an open hole to run throw. I think he just didn't have the patience to wait for a hole to open up.

What frustrated him was watson told him not to improvise and always follow blocks regardless whether a hole opened early or elsewhere

We have two WRs that will be in NFL camps and maybe NFL draft picks, how many do you need?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mack and Ffrench would play for almost any team in college football.

Mack was #2 in the entire country in yards per catch. Above Jerry Jeudy, Justyn Ross, and several guys who are playing in the NFL. He has NFL size and good hands. Hopefully Pickett balls out this year because Mack would be a Day 2 NFL draft pick with better QB play.

Ffrench doesn't have ideal NFL size but it's good enough. He does have gamebreaking speed. Maybe the most athletic guy on the team. His upside is substantial and he is absolutely a guy that will make a camp based on that upside.

Dont get this twisted with optimism, but from everything Ive seen and read, i feel like we are going to be seeing Whipple playing chess while other defenses are going to be playing checkers this fall. I haven't been this hyped for a preseason in a long, long time.

Mack is clearly one of Pitt's top 3 WR's. He has JR eligibility this season. So he can return for 2020 if he so chooses.

I think Mack and Ffrench and Matthews, plus potentially Carter, Tipton and Shocky, are a solid group. But can the line give time and can the QB deliver?
