VA Tech

They will probably be undefeated and ranked in the Top 10 heading into the ND game in Blacksburg. They are a well coached team, and the toughest opponent in our half of the conference.

Yeah, they're heading into their gauntlet of William & Mary, ECU, and ODU over the next 3 games.... all at home.

Nobody will care that they beat an FSU team that looked like crap, 3 cupcakes and then Duke. They'll be undefeated and ranked in the top 10.

Yes, the college football bowl people have shown time and time again they don’t care about sos, only record

FSU another overrated team, when will it end?
What the heck has happened to Fla CFB?

The Big 3 won about half of a decades worth of MNCs back in the day.....not a stretch to say the Big 3 last yr was UCF, USF and Fla Atl.

FSU, Miami need to step up big time and give the ACC a boost. Not a good image having those two playing like garbage.

Maybe they bought into the myth that a 2-star from FL is a 5-star everywhere else?

Bud Foster is a great college D coordinator. Fuentes is a good recruiter. They will be tough.

Everyone else started recruiting their territory and their coaching is far from what it used to be.

The truth is they’re not very good-and FSU is struggling badly with a whole new coaching staff and all new schemes.

Yeah, they are apparently playing Duzzi's MSU defense under DC Harlon Barnett. The first couple of series looked like recent vintage Pitt defense.

Yep. If Josh Jackson were a better vertical passer and if VT's offense wasn't so dink and dunk VT could have had anything it wanted down the deep middle.

not impressed with their O--their D looked good, especially the front 4 and the DBs, but FSU is clearly struggling with that new O.

Typical overreaction from Week 1. Happens everywhere.

VT will be good. But they are young and have a lot of flaws as well.

Kinda hard to tell how good Va Tech really is after that game. FSU was that bad tonight.
VT's defense was fast and aggressive. They got great push from the middle of their DL and also had the speed and pursuit to keep FSU from getting to the edge effectively. I thought on defense they were impressive. Offensively their running game was good, especially that counter play they kept running with great success. WR looked OK, not great. Their QB isn't very accurate. They look to be formidable if only because of their D

I find it interesting reading through the responses. Does anyone disagree that VT will be in the Top 10 when they play ND? Does anyone disagree that they are well coached, and will be the toughest opponent in our half of the conference? Reading comprehension boys.

Willie Taggart is the new Todd Graham of the ACC. All sizzle and little steak. All hat and no cowboy.

See Gunga's post. So what if they're undefeated and ranked in the Top 10? With what, a win over a struggling FSU, a bunch of FCS schools and Duke?

As for whether they will be the toughest opponent in the Coastal, I think it's too early to say that but the same answer--if they are, it's not saying much--the bar is pretty low.

I'm certainly not going to anoint VT as anything based on them beating a FSU team that is destined to struggle mightily this season. Their D looks good. Their O looks pedestrian a it was last year. Jackson is solid at QB but not a dynamic playmaker and not a great thrower. It was only the first game, but I was not overly impressed with them.

As for FSU, I knew they'd struggle with the new staff and schemes, but I didn't think they would be nearly as bad as they are.

The ACC is pretty much Clemson and a bunch of pikers this season. This is a year when a team like BC could make some real noise in the league.

There aren’t many really good college teams this year outside of about 6-8 schools. VT is in the next tier and will probably end up around 10-3. They have the right formula.

I got a better idea! Let's have Pitt step up and fill the void!

The Law of Sports Equilibrium: When one team gets better, another team has to get worse.

If not, every team would be 6-6 or even worse...0-0-12

Its way to early to make anything but slightly(very slightly) educated guesses. Problem is no one knows how good FL st is, so no way to know how good VT is except that they are better than FL ST at this point in time.

I thought both teams looked bad. If Virginia Tech was any good they would've buried FSU and not left the possibility of being in a 7 point game with 7 minutes to play. Although the FSU RB getting run down and subsequent sh!t possession left it a 14 point game.

The problem with the ACC is a lack of QBs. A strength a few years ago is a weakness now. Francois stinks and Jackson isn't much better. Pickett may end up one of the top QBs in the conference.

Totally agree! I would not be at all surprised to see BC finish second to Clemson in the other division.

You may end up being right about that. It was their first game too, and they should get better as they go. I’m just not ready to buy them as a top 15 team. That ND game will tell us a lot more.

They are not very good in what context?

After 1 game and being terribly young, it's pretty impossible to know what Vtech is at this point.

If you are judging only on week 1 results (and you do that for everyone) they should be in the top 10 right now.

See my post right before yours.

As for your statement that I judge "everyone" by first week performance, that's complete horseshit.

I couldn't give a $hit less whether VT is top 10 after week 1 of the season, or if they go undefeated through their next 3 games against pathetic competition. That does not mean they are one of the 10 best teams in the country, and the fact is in my opinion, based on the personnel they have and the youth of the team, and their lack of dynamic play-makers at QB and on offense, they aren't, and they won't be at the end of this season.

As I said previously, let's have this discussion after they play ND.

As for FSU, I knew they'd struggle this year, the only question is how badly. They have a completely new staff and totally new schemes on O and D. Add to that the fact that I feel that Taggart is in over his head as he was at Oregon--and you have a bad team. They will get better, but they are in for a rough year.

You are misreading what I meant.

"If you are judging only on week 1 results (and you do that for everyone) they should be in the top 10 right now."

Meaning a general "you" not specifically "you". There's not 9 other teams that beat a named team like FSU in the manner in which they did in week 1.
