VB: Care to check out the competition?

Marquette @ Wisconsin, 04/16/25:

Grace Lopez, who transferred to Wisconsin from Miami, is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Kentucky @ Louisville, 04/18/25:

I watched then first two sets, which they split. With Louisville having a new coach and having lost 70- plus percent of their offense plus the nation’s best libero, I was surprised at how well they played so early.

They moved Robins from MB to OH, but she still only plays 3 rotations. Cresse is their only returning MB with that move and she also is a 3 rotation player. They had one of the better frosh OH in the country last year in Peterson, and she was great in the first set. They got one of the top if not the top transfer player in the country in Chacoine to bolster their OH. Their new setter, replacing Glock who graduated, is Cabellos, who tortured us last year in the national semis. She played well , but they didn’t have anyone hit from the back row. It’s early so maybe with a new setter they haven’t worked on that. Their defense, as expected, wasn’t as good.

Overall, considering what they lost and how many new pieces they have had to work in, they were much better than I expected.

There is still a lot of talent on that roster. Will be interesting to see if Meske can recruit close to what DBK was doing. It shouldn't be difficult, given their location relative to Midwest talent, but she pulled Claire Chaussee off of Wisconsin's doorstep, too.
