Stanford reverse sweeps GT to keep their slim hopes alive to to be a top four seed. GT is now outside....looking in....to be a top 16 seed and host early round tournament games. GT at Pitt this Saturday to close out the '24 regular season. Pitt will win this.....no way these Pitt seniors will say goodbye with a regular season final loss. The game is a sell out.

“The game is a sell out.” When I first really started to follow Pitt VB a few years ago attendance of 500 was a good crowd. What a great story this team and women’s VB has been since then. Securing an ACC Championship tonight means one championship down, one more to go.

Another score today....Penn State has beaten Rutgers in a sweep....3 - 0. Of the teams still in the running for a top 4 seed it is....
  • Pitt....1 game remaining Saturday....GT at home
  • Louisville.....1 game remaining Saturday at Stanford
  • Penn State....1 game remaining Friday at home....Nebraska
  • Nebraska also has a match on Saturday versus Maryland
  • If Penn State loses to Nebraska.....Creighton has an outside shot of getting a top seed assuming they win the Big East tournament this week
A new KPI ranking should come out tomorrow....I hope Pitt is #1 and pushes Nebraska back to #2.

Would Louisville fall out if they lose to Stanford, Penn Stste beats NE, and Creighton wins the BE?

Hate to say it but we really need a PSU win on Friday - that would guarantee us the top seed. I think Penn State is a lock at this point to be a regional host, I think the only questions left are Pitt vs Neb for the 1 overall, Penn State vs Louisville for 3/4, and then could Louisville lose their hosting spot to Stanford if they lose Saturday

I think in that situation the seeding ends up:
1. Pitt
2. Nebraska
3. Penn State
4. Stanford
5. Louisville
6. Creighton

We asked the same question!

No doubt about it....Pitt is the #1 seed if Penn State beats Nebraska. I'm watching what happens with the KPI from here on in regarding the other scenarios you point out. KPI is superior to RPI to guide the committee on their selections and they now indicate they will include it in their selection criteria. We just don't know if they will truly make a break from the RPI.

Help me out here with this. Louisville has locked in a hosting site for rounds 1 and 2. And the Final Four and championship will be in Louisville. But if they drop to the 2 seed line, drop out of the overall top 4 for tournament seeking, they would not host rounds 3 and 4? Is that right?

I’d love to avoid a semifinal against Louisville but feel like we are destined to be on the same side of the bracket with them. If Nebraska beats PSU, they get the 1, we are 2, Louisville is 3. If PSU pulls the upset, it gives us the 1 but also pushes them ahead of Louisville, who is then 4 and still on our side of the bracket.

Exactly. Stanford would host rounds 3 and 4 in that bracket instead if they beat Louisville on Saturday and pass them for the 4th top seed

I will be really surprised if Penn State beats Nebraska. On the other hand, I don't know about Louisville Stanford. If Stanford beats Louisville, does Louisville drop 2 spots and let Stanford sneak into the top 4 or does Creighton somehow sneak in? Does Louisville hang onto a top 4 slot?

The latest KPI numbers are out...
  1. Pitt .792
  2. Nebraska .790
  3. Louisville .657
  4. PSU .645
  5. Stanford .639
It is clear that the top 2 seeds are now a lock....Pitt & Nebraska. Who is #1 and who is #2 is a toss up until the remaining matches this week are played. The final #3 and #4 are not clear at all. Nebraska at PSU tomorrow and Louisville at Stanford Saturday will determine that. I expected Pitt's win over Louisville to give us more than a razor thin .002 point lead. It's now looking more like Pitt will be the #2 seed if Nebraska wins their final 2 matches (PSU and Maryland) and Pitt takes care of business on Saturday against GT at the Fitz. Right now I'm a huge Penn State fan.....which is a pretty strange 'taste' today to go along with the turkey!

Here's the complete KPI standings.

while not a conspiracy guy at all, mark my words that the NCAAT seeding will somehow set up to best guarantee the B1G gets protected most to get one to the finals and a best shot at 2 at the expense of the ACC or anyone else

however that needs to be IT WILL BE

Bet?!

@Tvax1 - I offered a similar reply in a different post. The top 4 seeds would have NE and PSU lined up (as either a 1-4 or 2-3) and we would be matched as a 1-4 with either UL or Stanford/Creighton or a 2-3 with UL. Guarantees that if all matches go as seeded there will be a B1G team in the finals.

I didn't look into it much last year but iirc Pitt and Louisville were set up at the overall #4 and #5 which would make most certain the ACC wouldn't get 2 into the Final Four by getting the best 2 ACC teams to have to knock one out in regional(?) final

Gentlemen....to be clear....the NCAA already has what they want.....a seeding that maximizes the probability that Pitt and Nebraska will play one another in the championship game. That is now certain because Pitt and Nebraska will be #1 and #2 (who is 1st and who is 2nd remains to be seen) and will not face off in the semi final. A Pitt - Nebraska final is what just about every volleyball fan in America wants to see at this point. Keep watching the KPI to place your bets. My interest is to find out whether the NCAA committee defaults back to RPI for seeding. That is frankly....stupid.

ok agree and must be or at least should be what they want

however if Pitt and Neb flip places by the objective numbers making the conferences matchup change in earlier rounds, do the 2 and 3 flip to match ? ie. would they try to get the conferences split represented in the final if an upset were to occur?

I'm interested to see how and where the #2's get placed
