Wow - wonder if Fisher was planning for this - seems a portal MB is critical now - a lot riding on Kelley’s health now
This is bizarre. How did Fisher not know this was going to happen? Let's take inventory....
- We are now down to 3 MBs....2 are freshmen and Kelley is attempting to come back from an extremely serious ankle injury.
- We are thin at L/DS with only Klika, Griffin, and one incoming freshmen.....and Griffin is mostly a serve specialist.
- The total roster right now stands at just 14 athletes....3 are freshmen, 2 are serve specialists, and 1 is recovering from a serious injury.
- Fisher needs to strike gold when the portal opens again on May 1st. We need another MB and Libero.
- We'll never see Jepsen again....not that it matters now. Her mission work ends in 18 months....the end of 2025.
I'm sure Dan knew that Jepsen would be pausing her eligibility.
I'm also confident that Dan will fill the roster with top-notch, experienced players to fill the holes when the portal opens up again.

I'm surprised that we hadn't heard about this before now. Rachel has to do what she has to do but isn't great for Pitt. Maybe this contributed to the 2 freshmen MBs enrolling early. H2P

3 straight National Semifinals elevates Pitt to a destination program.
Now that Fisher has an open roster spot, top MBs who want to compete for a National Championship this upcoming season and not currently in the portal, are probably already contacting Pitt's staff through backchannels to see if there is any mutual interest.
Texas won a National Championship with transfers like this.

Not easy to go shopping in the portal this time of year but you are right. VB backchannels are more like expressways and the tampering is real.
i mean it seems like we pulled bre out of Florida. Are there any names being floated around now?

Most of the transfer stuff is pretty quiet right now but with all of the junior qualifiers going on, you can bet there are back channel communications going on through the club coaches and directors.

I haven't seen anything from the portal that excites me but I suspect that if there is a viable candidate, it will happen quietly and then suddenly.
Yep.....pretty unexciting at the moment....may need to look at the instagram feeds from some of the Pitt athletes and especially Kellen Petrone for possible hints of a transfer.
Wouldnt be shocked. Also wouldn't be shocked if we pull someone away from their current school to Pitt, i mean imo thats what we did with Bre Kelly

WVU had five girls enter the portal last night. Only can assume the new coach is giving preference to her own recruits. Normally wouldn't care but Nele Broszat was one of them. She is a MB and a German national who played for their junior national team. She's 6'2" and coming off of her Freshman season. Not sure she'd be a good fit. Melanie McGann was another. She played Opposite but could also play Middle at 6'3". She's out of the DFW area of Texas, which might be the craziest and most cut throat area for juniors. She started for two season and could possibly play the position.
I think this will come down to what Fisher things of his newbies and if he's comfortable using Cat in an emergency, like last year. Reality of the transfer portal era, you just can't stockpile talent.
