I haven't watched them since the first match where we beat them. First set was a beat down, and even though the second and third were closer, I was never worried. I know they were working in some new players, but looking at their Big Ten results, they were swept by Nebraska and PSU and lost 3-1 to Wisconsin. So they still appear to be a clear "next tier" team that we should handle if we play our game. Would love to hear the thoughts of those who have actually watched them or analyzed the data.

In that first game, Olivia didn't play well. I think Oregon's block is their strength but they don't exactly frighten you offensively. I'm guessing they're going to try to mix things up and confuse Pitt like Oklahoma did.
  • Definitely...Oregon is a pretty good blocking team....the same as Pitt. Oregon blocks at 2.89 blocks/set....Pitt is 2.93 blocks/set. I think both are top 10 in that category.
  • Oregon scores at about 18 points/set....Pitt is 19 points/set...+1 to Pitt.
  • Pitt gives back fewer points/set at 6.6 among the best in the NCAA.....Oregon is 8.7.....+2 points to Pitt.
  • That +3 point advantage is a nice cushion to go into this match.
  • Slow down their premier hitter....Mimi Colyer....4.02 kills/set....and hold back their blocking ability then we should win comfortably.
  • Oregon has not done that well against the top teams on their schedule....losing 6 and winning 3.
  • On the Volley Talk board....the poll they are running has 57 voters...and 50 of them has Pitt either sweeping or losing just 1 set to Oregon.
I hope Pitt is over their illness doldrums that Fisher referred to in his postgame Oklahoma remarks. Looking forward to Olivia returning to form from what must have been her lowest hitting % of the year against Oklahoma .139.
