VB: vs UMBC - 09/25/24 Match Info

They truly have the opportunity to be the greatest single Pitt team in any sport in school history. That is so crazy to fathom

Ummm, the 12-0 1976 Pitt football team wants a word, along with the 1915 & 1916 undefeated Pitt national championship football teams, not to mention the undefeated and unscored upon 1910 football team for which Pitt doesn't claim a national title despite being selected for one, and the 1928 national champion men's basketball team that went 21-0.

Let's just say they have a chance to join some of the greatest teams in very rarefied air.

And they have a chance to win Pitt's first ever NCAA-awarded team national championship in any sport.

Yes...."to join some of the greatest teams in very rarefied air". I had season tickets in '76 and I can still see Tony Dorsett shredding defenses all season long. Now I have volleyball season tickets. I feel the same vibe as '76. It feels good to be a Pitt fan right now....and let's not forget the men's soccer team!

It's a race to see who will win Pitt's first NCAA national championship.

Nobody cares about teams from the 1910s.

No one cares about Ty Cobb or Jack Johnson then either, I guess.

Do you say the same thing about your grandfathers and great grandfathers?

People will soon be saying the same thing about 1976.
"People will soon be saying the same thing about 1976." Interesting.....I remember thinking in 1976.....there were people still alive then who were 76 years old and saw all the great Pitt teams from those long ago years (1910 and later) you mention. Man...that had to be something special......being around to see all those earlier Pitt championship teams and also 1976!

Up until about Covid, a gentleman that had watched Jock Sutherland roam the sidelines and Marshall Goldberg run the ball sat right in front of me in Heinz for every game. It isn't that long ago in the scheme of history.
