I'm transcribing this right now and I'll post the transcript as soon as it's done, but Pat Narduzzi's press briefing today included a discussion of nearly 8 minutes on James Franklin saying that Penn State changed its offensive and defensive signals in the wake of John Petrishen transferring to Pitt.

This was nearly half of Narduzzi's press briefing, and the comments on the signals begin at the 9:32 mark if you want to skip ahead.

He instigated that signal tirade. Seems he's pissed Franklin brought it up like Pitt brought in Petrishen on purpose. Couldn't wait to throw the Eric Thatcher comment in there. I don't think it's a big deal either way, since they should be changing/varying their signals all the time anyway.

What's the genesis of Narduzzi busting Jerry D's balls every press conference? It certainly orchestrated since he does it every time, often multiple times.

Keeping a local Pitt beat writer in his pocket. A head coaching staple technique everywhere for decades.

The fact Narduzzi brought it up unasked and his tone during the conversation shows how pi$$ed he was that Franklin even bought it up. Basically, he is saying that Petrishen knowing those signals cannot help Pitt in any way and explained why. He then pointed out that PSU has Eric Thatcher who knows Pitt's stuff and you have a 35 year old vs a 21 year old.

He even went so far as to take 2 more shots at Franklin:

- said people who are paranoid about stealing signals are the ones who steal signals

- demonstrated how a team would steal signals and insinuated that PSU steal signals since their QBs always get set and then look to the sideline for a call.

Narduzzi obviously doesn't like Franklin but no coaches really do. The coaching fraternity really dislikes that guy but guess what, that doesn't matter. Franklin his recruiting his butt of to the point he has 8 win guaranteed based on talent and only really has to coach a couple games per year.

They all should stick to game day stuff.
All of these pressers are a worthless consumer of everyones time.
What could they possibly reveal the plan for the game?
They have to find things to talk about other than game day strategy
and plans or there would be nothing to say.

The absolute worst pressers are the post game interview of the losing coach.

We didn't execute.
We didn't have a good plan.
They played well.
We have a lot of things to work on this week.
We have to do better next week.

Even worse pressers are interviews with players.

The only thing that tops these interviews is the quick one as teams go to the locker room at half when they run out some inappropriately ( atleast for a football game) dressed young women who asks the losing coach what will he do in the second half to turn things around.

Like he's going to tell you and the national audience how he plays to engineer
his comeback. He may tell you in the privacy of a Holiday Inn Express room but not at half time.

What’s more worthless in terms of time spent. Watching coach & player pressers or reading posts on this board?

Pretty close horse race IMHO

Don't like the guy, engineer a way to beat him.

Say what everyone wants about Wanny bad or good. But what he and the staff did for 13-9 game should be the standard when in this situation. When up against a rival expected to clean your clock, throw the usual to the wind. Devise a radical plan that is totally unexpected, get buy in from the team, and execute it with all your heart. It still probably won't be enough. But use up all your bullets.

It is pretty funny to watch this... He very clearly doesnt think highly of Franklin as a human being. I have my Pitt bias, but it seems like everyone in college football thinks he is scummy, but that reputation just doesnt stick with the media for whatever reason.

Joe Paterno loved Foge and was pretty vocal when he was fired. He hated Sherrill. I wonder why?
