Really starting to develop a nice offensive game for Gtown. Would have been a huge pickup for us.
Add him to our team and we make the NCAA tournament. Close but no cigar.
I’ll go with James Harden at #1.Pitt’s list of close but no cigar recruits would be enough for a nice little 4-5 year dynasty.
He was going where Pera was going. Do you have your shoes ready for the next act?lol if you know anything about James Harden and his off court antics you know there was 0% chance Pitt was ever in the game. Arizona St. was the pick for one reason.

Harden was quoted saying he would have gone to Pitt if his high school coach was hired at Pitt as Director of Ops. He didn't get the job because the hire was put on the back burner due to Maggie’s death. ASU hired the guy not long after. I believe the coach was from Hershey, Pa., and played at PSU.lol if you know anything about James Harden and his off court antics you know there was 0% chance Pitt was ever in the game. A former si.com writer told this story in his power rankings at the start of 2009. I believe Pitt was first after hammering Georgetown. What were Harden’s antics as an 18-year old?

you think your comments make sense, but you live in an echo chamber with other delusional fans.
lol. You calling other fans delusional is comical. This coming from the guy saying Pitt’s team next year would be better than 08-09.
Yep! And it was ironic that Pera’s eventual first head job was in the same city Harden owned for many, many years. Oh wait that wasn’t ironic. Harden donated his salary cost for 2 years to Rice in exchange for him getting the job.He was going where Pera was going. Do you have your shoes ready for the next act?
Yeah, he was the guy I thought would be a GREAT fit for what HCJC does, pretty good athlete, would be able to move around defensively like HCJC wants, with good size and shot blocking, would be athletic enough to get the O boards and convert, be able to score with his athleticism on passes ... I really liked him.Really starting to develop a nice offensive game for Gtown. Would have been a huge pickup for us.
But this is what pisses me off about some of these recruits decisions. If Wahab is here, we are likely 12-3, and ranked and being one of the talk of the country.
I just couldn't imagine seeing how we had a Fr PG who was made the All ACC Freshman team, and not big worth anything came here.
I know. All three freshmen showed some great flashes. It’s surprising Capel wasn’t able to convert that into a higher profile recruiting win.
Now none of those guys we were after are producing like Justin, but if we’re just talking on paper. It’s surprising.
Yes and as Ski pointed out, you would have thought after seeing how all 3 of the Freshman Capel landed at the last minute when he was hired were starting and getting big minutes and stats that it would have been easier to sell and land one or two more of our top targets. Especially a big.If Capel ultimately fails here, it will be largely due to his subpar first full class.
Champagnie (great)
Coulibaly
Drumgoole
Murphy
That first full class is usually one of the strongest for a new HC. Most players are signed in November before a game is played so he can sell his vision, his excitement for the program. Out of Capel's first full class, only 1 will see their junior year.

We need to hit the transfer/JC route hard for next season to bring in a C that can play D, rebound and score.
You do realize he was selling a program that won a total of 3 conference games in two yrs don’t you . This is a process of getting better and as a result getting better recruits. Without shenanigans it doesnt happen overnight .He even struck out on guys who ended up not being very good like Tyrese Samuel who is averaging 6 and 3 at SHU, Aiden Igiehon who has never played a meaningful minute at Louisville, and Khadim Sy (averaging 3 and 2 at Ole Miss)
I would adjust that for a new head coach coming in to a program that had just gone winless in the ACC and was one of the worst programs in the country. If Capel ultimately fails here, it will be largely due to his subpar first full class.

Surely you realize such a player would be in huge demand. His options would be nearly unlimited. Not saying Capel couldn’t land one due to so much PT being available. But the competition would be unbelievably fierce.
Don't disagree but easy sell against if you are up against a team with a returning starter at the 5 or a top recruit coming in aka all the blue bloods! Capel needs to sell harder on recruiting

Sure everyone wants to go a school that loses especially when they’re offered at very successful programs .Recruits dont care how many games the prior coach won. DePaul is now recruiting very well.

Eh, I disagree. The difference between the production we didn’t retain (Carr) and the production we got to replace it (Xavier) is significantly smaller than the difference between Wahab’s production at Pitt and Coulibaly/Brown/Hugley’s production.Might add the failure of retaining players AND incoming recruits from the Stallings experiment. He wanted those guys that may have helped And you have to believe his rep was fairly high coming from Duke. Just couldn’t sell Pitt’s program as it was but who could.
Exactly. What a lame excuse. Look at some of the classes Illinois, Georgia, Miss State, Auburn, Alabama etc... pulled in as compared to their previous 2-3 seasons.Recruits dont care how many games the prior coach won. DePaul is now recruiting very well.
Ok but Golden would have been just that...Eh, I disagree. The difference between the production we didn’t retain (Carr) and the production we got to replace it (Xavier) is significantly smaller than the difference between Wahab’s production at Pitt and Coulibaly/Brown/Hugley’s production.
