Walt had empty cupboards but his only chance of competing with Ohio State, Notre Dame and a bunch of other top teams was to do uneven lines, stacked lines crazy offensive combinations to try and find a seam or confuse the other team. Offense does win games these days and to try and continually run the ball up the gut is going nowhere unless you are sitting on a lead.
The defense needs to change and I cant put a finger on why his stuff is not working but middling level teams build adequate defenses and hope to outscore the opponent. Pass blocking and maybe the entire pass game needs to be scrambled and simplified with quick slants and rolling the QB out to create some short routes because KP is going to get killed in normal drop back style.
I am still a fan but I have come to expect what happened last night as just the norm in the life of a pitt fan, almost think they made it but realize this is sort of the little train that just cant.
