Wanny on Mandels podcast

Seriously Joe, just stop. We get it. No one, especially me, thinks Wanny was a great coach. I think he was better than you give him credit, but we can agree to disagree. Getting into a war of fun facts, i.e., selective stats, is fruitless because no one is changing their mind. What is galling, however, is the absolute vitriol
heaped on him by too many on this board. JHC, he's one of our own.

I never bring the guy up until the people who worship the ground that he walks on talk about how he was doing such a great job and we really need to get back to what we had when he was here. It's revisionist BS, and if people stop peddling the revisionist BS I'll never bring the guy up again.

And as far as him being one of our own, he certainly was. Right up until when he started doing everything he could to screw us and started bad mouthing the school at every chance he got. With friends like him, who needs enemies?
Maybe some day he apologizes for his actions after he was let go and maybe then he'll stop bad mouthing Pitt whenever he gets the chance. If he does, then he can be "one of us" again. Until then, no.

Actually, Dave's last 3 seasons WERE the best three year stretch in Pitt football since the early 80s. 27-12 in a three year stretch isn't chopped liver. 2009's final ranking of 15 was higher than any season since 1982. 2010 Pitt won a share of the Big East. Fans that thought Pitt could and would do a lot better than Wannstedt were totally delusional. The last 4 years have sucked and been a kick in the groin to the entire program. Basically everything about the program since Dave was fired have screamed bush league. I don't know how any logical thinking Pitt fan could praise the debacle that has ensued since Wanny was fired.

That's not to "worship the ground he walks on" or say he was "doing a great job". However, he at least had Pitt respectable and fans had high expectations. He had the program to the point where 8 wins was viewed as a horrible year.

He also provided stability. Don't take that lightly. I'm very skeptical that Narduzzi will remain at Pitt if he has other big name suitors coming after him in the future. Even if Pitt were to step up and pay big money, that still doesn't guarantee much of anything.

This curious argument of wanny vs Harris is like two wet noodles attacking each other. Why argue about coaches from the past. Both men built Pitt into a better team. I appreciate their contributions, but it is the Narduzzi and Barnes era.
