Was that free beverage thing that internet world making fun of real?

We lost some recruits today. I know it isn't all about winning , but getting your ass hammered in front of 40,000, 20, 000 after the half , won't do any favors in the next month

Anyone think the Pitt leadership realizes how bad the school looked the last three weeks thanks to these embarrassing games (game 1 was really like a loss too)? Or are they indifferent like my era (early nineties)? Those years, they actually seemed glad the sports teams did poorly. As someone else posted earlier today, for schools with major college sports, it's the front porch to the university... what everyone thinks of first.

Pitt is a freaking joke after this loss. Not only was it a blowout but Pitt manages to make themselves the laughing stock of the internet with their free drink offer and pictures of fans sleeping. What an embarrassment. I'm glad I work every Saturday and can't watch them.

Some stupid BS to get people from say WVU (who just last year witnessed their own exodus whole losing a much more important home game to an Oklahoma team themselves, 56-28) some laughs. Good for them!

I mean that is just so stupid and if I'm Pitt, I'm having a conversation with ESPN about showing that and the sleeping fans. That's embarrassing but leave it to Pitt to have such a ridiculous "incentive" to have kids stay the whole game.

As I've said for many years, you charge the students $100 or so for season tickets and then scan their ID on the way out after the game ends and put $10 back on the card.

Maybe that's Pitt's problem to fix , for a change !

Pitt deserves this. Looking the other way won't change what happened.

Hating sports is one of the longest lasting Pitt traditions. It goes back to forcing Sutherland out. You'd think we're Oxford rather than some state-related school from Yinzerville.

Much like everything else Pitt athletics related, the only response is to laugh about it. We deserve to be laughed at. Getting upset about it won't help. You have to start having fun somehow. Why not have fun with how awful we are. Have the scoreboard put up a sign saying "If the Panthers score a TD in this quarter, fans in 528 get free season tickets for 2018!" Everyone will then look over at 528 and laugh when they see absolutely nobody there. Stuff like that would at least let folks have a little comic relief. Everything related to the gameday experience at Heinz from the team, to the constant deafening, horrible music is just garbage.

You are on to something , and some ideas you have would be appreciated by some up on the hill. They would rather try this stuff than actually get hands dirty and build a program

It's not a horrible idea if you can provide a tiny bit of incentive.

But the channel of communication was bad. There isn't text alert they could set up or even a tweet?

Putting it on the scoreboard in a blowout game is what was a poor decision, and easy to make fun of

A $1 soda is not an incentive. Charge the kids $100 and rebate them $10 to stay.

You a Bernie fan ?

Yes, but that isnt the point. You aren't giving them free money. You are paying them back the money they have already spent. If students cant pay $100 to get most of it back simply for showing up, then I seriously don't want them there.

SMF,

I like your passion but you want to charge $100 for tickets you can get for free to people who do not have a spare $100? Literally every home have I could get up to 30 free tickets with trying unless we are playing ND, PSU or WVU. This is not on the students or fans, it is on Pitt. I

I know its on Pitt but the point is that if they feel that having kids stay until the end is an issue, offering them a $1 soda to stay is simply comical. Its so ridiculous. Either do nothing or do something real.

Pitt does not need a 10K seat student section. The only reason that its that large is because they cant sell those seats to anyone else.

Pitt needs 3000 or so true student fans willing to pay $100 to go to all the games and get rebated. Then if more students want to come to the first game (which always has a big student crowd even though its FCS) or a premier game, you sell individual tickets for like $20-$30.
