And Dave wannstedt was on.

And made a comment to the effect of when coaching you have a window to capture your success in. He was referring to Tennessee needing that win over Florida.

It got me thinking and that's what has me worried about Pitt. Penn State is 2-2 doesn't look good Notre dame is looking awful, Ohio state is recruiting more nationally and less around wpa. It seemed with the locker room, uniforms, and win over penn state momentum was heading in Pitts direction. A window was opening so to speak.

Then we blow a game we COULD of won.
Then we lose a local practically legacy recruit.
Then we have a meltdown for the ages.

Meanwhile both nd and psu lose.

I feel that Narduzzi (because of his own stubbornness) has squandered some prime opportunities even back to last year.

Next year looks like a down year. What is he going to sell to recruits? It was imperative to win 8-9 games this season and I just don't see that happening now.

What will he sell indeed? No way we're winning 8 or 9 games with this crew. At this point, 7 wins would be good so he can't sell progress in the win column. He's also weakend the "immediate playing time" argument. If one of our freshmen can't crack into this starting lineup (particularly at DB or WR) then that angle goes out the window. His unwillingness to adjust to the team he has is going to cost dearly.

Good comments, and up to Narduzzi to improve Pitt in 2016 with 8 games left and 2017 will have to be better too, not a problem with it. Narduzzi will do it or he won't, but I am confident he can, and he has built a great foundation not seen since 1980s, and that includes Wannstedt Years too?
Pitt Lost to great coaches that have 9 and 11 years as head Coach and by 7 and 1 point, and in Narduzzi's 16th and 17th games as Head Coach, have not seen that at Pitt since Sherrill in 1977?
I can wait and and it good to see and watch Pitt playing until the last play in games against good teams, again! Even in loses! I look forward to this team better than any since 1989?

My sense - or maybe guess - is the Coach Duzz's defense is tough to learn for the safeties. The have to make nanosecond decisions on who is "going vertical"... A mistake there can lead to six - and the ballgame - as it apparently did on the first play against OSU... And I didn't get to see yesterday's game but once again the safeties sounded out of position a few times on big plays.
That's why I think we're not seeing the freshmen DBs yet - the reading-the-play part. And if the "veterans" are struggling then how tough would it be for the true frosh...
Go Pitt

my sense, his defense works better against old school big 10 run the football kind of offenses. not so good against spread offenses.

agree completely with dave on the window comment.

Well, Butch Jones is in his 4th year at Tennessee. Will be a better comp when Narduzzi's in his 4th year at Pitt.

That's actually the whole point the time frame of windows are all different. Tennessee was able to endure some rebuilding because they were turning in 1 recruiting classes.

Next year looks like a down year? Pitt has a ton coming back and should be improved everywhere but left side of the OL and one DE.

Who are our best players?

probably 9-11 are seniors and that isn't even counting replacing a senior two year starter at qb.

You don't like an OL of JJ Smith - LG - Officer - Bookser - Oneill? They might move Officer to LG and play Dintino at C.

Peterman's a serviceable QB. Galambos, Caprara, Lewis and Webb are easily replaced. Jarrett and Soto are sound but the DT behind them have a lot of talent. Ford isn't even out there now. Clark easily replaces Orndoff. I disagree.

Ya you're projecting an awful lot.

Correct the fact we were out of T.O. At the end of the game and went for 2 early won't continue to happen. We panicked a little on the sidelines. The scheme etc don't know enough to fault, that being said "should be able to turn that receiver and get inside position in that short of field. We'll be fine

Don't you have to do that in college football when you turn over 25% of your roster every year?

???

Saying we aren't going to miss much when we lose 12 of 22 starters plus our qb and best player on offense and defense isn't just projecting.
