the same Liberty who beat UCLA and lost close ones to Vandy ,Bama and Gtown..they have better big players than we do ..all three ..how does a school like that get serviceable bigs?...I’m not saying we are recruiting against them ,..but the allure of ACC competition and the City of Pittsburgh..gotta count for something..sheesh...look for them they are out there...

Pitt has it's draw; however, Liberty has one of the better campus experiences on the east coast, and they're constantly adding amenities. They even have their own ski slope w/lodge and shooting range.

Our city Campus isn't meant for everyone.
That's for sure.
When I was in high school, (I'm from the city)
I didn't want anything to do with the city.
But it will have its appeal to some kids, for sure.

City kids want out for the most part. Lawrence, Chapel Hill, Charlottesville. Say what you will but these campuses have to look like paradise to some inner city youth. Oakland is a tough draw unless a kid with straw between his teeth wants the city life as a change.

Their tallest player is 6'8".

Over the last five games their most frequent lineup, by far, is 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, 6-6, 6-8. Their second most frequent lineup replaces the 6-1 guy with a 5-9 guy with the other four players the same.

Of course they are also 142 in defensive rebounding percentage and 285 in offensive rebounding percentage, so that's not really why they win games.

Forget Liberty. Pitt has some of the worst bigs in college basketball. Just look at our non-con. Saint Louis, Troy, Niagara, Duquesne, etc had better bigs. I am sure Kene and Terrell are great kids but they are NEC-level players, and really just average NEC players at that. I have no idea how Dixon and Stallings whiffed so bad in this area and Capel hasnt landed anyone either.

Liberty and Grand Canyon will be interesting to follow over the next five-ten years. They’re both somewhat in the same boat and are showing huge commitments to D1 athletics.

Liberty is making massive upgrades but their politics is going to keep them out of any mid-major leagues. The Big South kicked them out after their football team left for the FBS. They had to join one of the worst D1 leagues, the Atlantic Sun (aka Dunk City's league). I'd guess FGCU leaves the A-Sun shortly also.

I think Grand Canyon will be in the Mountain West or WCC within 5 years especially now that they are non-profit.

did not know they had "politics" issues...thought they were a religious institution. Last I heard they will invite anyone with wide varieties of opinions to speak at their university...those universities with correct "politics", in general, not so much (or at least not without riot police handy)...

I really dont want to get into it but they do not allow certain types of people based on religious beliefs. They offered CUSA and the Sun Belt $20 million to take them but nobody did. I am simply stating the fact that they are going to find a tough time finding a landing place based on their moral/religious code in this day and age.

thanks for the correction which implies they are being left out based on their religious convictions and not politics as you originally stated.....

More to the point it’s a right wing Christian version of university of Phoenix.
With the irony being a federal dollar sponge.

Their enrollment is almost entirely online.

15k on campus about 90k online as of 2017.
Fret you not. The vast majority of schools are left wing echo chambers, so they still have a near monopoly.

Not sure why people keep trying to politicize a school. Who do we play next? Left wing NC State or left wing Louisville? Identity politics for schools!

Well, being it founded by Jerry Falwell-
It’s politics are part of its identity.

Whereas those two examples are public non affiliated schools funded by their states

15K on campus is still a relatively big school. I dont think the University of Phoenix even has a campus. Liberty is closer to GCU in terms of having a fairly big campus but bigger online presence.

Maybe the Christian thing appeals to some.

Jerry Falwell's dream was to beat Notre Dame for the Christian football championship. That's a stretch, but they have reached D1.

I'm sure it does. If a basketball player is partial to that flavor of Evangelicalism, it's likely that Liberty is a strong consideration. On the other hand, I've known plenty of athletes who simply take the best opportunity (scholarship/support/coaches/facilities/competition level) to play their sport, regardless of whether it's a strongly religious affiliated school.

We’ve always known parochial schools recruit very well!
