We could lose to Purdue and still be really good

This might be the best OOC team to ever come in here. Purdue is really good. 2/3 seed kind of good. They will probably be too much for us and the problem with that we have to rely on only the ACC schedule to build a resume.

A win, though, that would be enormous. This is the kind of win that is worth at least 1 seed line, maybe even 2 if Purdue wins the Big 10.

This is the kind of win that takes you from a 21-10 8 seed to a 22-9 6 seed.

With the Gonzaga game cancelled, we need this one.

Purdue currently has the #1 field goal percentage defense in the country.

#1 offense vs #1 defense

It is the best OOC opponent to ever come to the Pete. Tennessee was ranked #11 when they came to Pittsburgh in the 2010-2011 season, but that game was at the CEC of course. And Tennessee ended up being something of a bubble team as the year went on.

I'd think about using Young at the 5 more this game. They are so huge inside that it wont matter much. I think I'd go Young/Jeter/Artis and drag their big guys out. If they shoot a high pct from 17 feet we win. If not, we lose.

...and Purdue can lose and Purdue will still be good. If Pitt puts 5 behind the line that are all real threats...that would create some concerns for Purdue. Placing 4 behind the line that are threats may not. IU was a pretty good 3 pt shooting team and Purdue defended the 3 and left AJ to defend the rim for any drivers. Now, if Pitt has a good in-between game...THAT could be effective. I have no idea who for Purdue will play well...nobody does. Generally though Swanigan will be close to a double double if no foul trouble. AJ may score or may be a rim protector or both. Haas, cannot defend in space as well as AJ, but having a 7'2" frame with less than 10% body fat on a 285 lb body seals for drivers and posts pretty well. Edwards is the most versatile offensive player. He can pass, dribble, rebound and score inside and out, but sometimes he is too much of a team player. Swanigan is an aggressive rebounder that protects the ball well and draws fouls, can hit the three but has been shooting too many of late. He is a good passer, does well on the outlet (in case Pitt sends a lot to the boards and doesn't get the ball) and provides an effective high low combination.

Davis was the Big defender of the year last year. Some say the country. he may or may not play and if he does...how healthy and how effective without practice? He is an okay perimeter shooter, but great driving the ball and picking up fouls...good FT shooter as well.

The second five will be teh five that "could" blow a game open if hot. Overall, the 5 is more athletic at center(Hammons) and there will be two that are capable of hitting 5 in a row behind the line. The PG...PJ Thompson is the better perimeter shooter and Johnny Hill is the better driver with more length. Beating Pitt at Pitt is a major accomplishment. Beating Pitt and Pitt without a healthy Davis is huge for Purdue. If and this is a big if..."IF" Purdue finds teh stroke behind the line....Purdue is very hard to defend. I look for a similar basektball culture of being hard nosed and competitive and playing to the end. I hope the lousy zebras that show up everywhere this year don't ruin a good game. Treat the inside game as the outside game and don't get noticed and fans will be happy.. Make it a show time about the zebras...testing the pea on insignificant play will upset fans...

As TJ said, Purdue could lose to Pitt and still be very good, but if they do, 90% of our board will declare the season over.

Vandy may be the best team, but Purdue plays them at home. Butler is on a "somewhat neutral" court. Purdue is away at PItt and this may be the most difficult test before the Big? Part of me likes the idea of playing Pitt at home without Davis as it could be a huge confidence builder for the others if Purdue could squeak out a win
