We entice bad coaches to stay here.

Precisely. How soon we forget how much no one could stand James Robinsons' lack of being able to score (I get that he still had value)... how people said Young and Artis quit in games... how our bigs were so bad (Randall, Maia, Nelson-Ododa) that Aron Phillips-Nwankwo was getting legit minutes. Hell, so was Nix. And let's not even talk about the cliff recruiting fell off. A losing season(s) was absolutely in the cards if Dixon had stayed. Those teams were getting eviscerated by fans.
At the end of his tenure here Dixon couldn't sell a starving man a steak dinner. Recruiting was dead. He was a great coach, but, all coaches need talent. His last so many rosters were just as incomplete as Capel's. Neither could recruit a 5. Capel can recruit some guard talent, but, he just can't coach like Jamie.

Nobody - not one person - thinks Stallings was a good hire.

You're pretty anti Tomlin. If the Steelers go 7-10 this season and they fire Tomlin and hire Carrot Top, who goes 5-12 the following season, does that mean they should have kept Mike Tomlin or does it just mean they shouldn't have hired Carrot Top?
It's always a bad sign when a successful long-term coach starts regressing and recruiting starts to dip. That's how a lot of prolonged drought periods began in the days before portal ball.

At that point, you really need to bring in a Sean Miller type that has the clout to purge the roster and can sign high-level talent STAT. Barnes made things worse by overhyping the hire while the job was still open, only to bring in a vet that had an entire resume similar to Dixon ll, and was in a situation identical to Jamie - led a stagnant program & nudged out the door.

That's about the only type of hire that would have had a chance to unite the fanbase. And I'm not even sure that would have done it. The opinions on what the expectations should be for the program, and what the future would have been had the marriage between Pitt and Jamie survived, are all over the spectrum.

If Dixon was willing to come back today I would take him in a heartbeat. Does anyone else feel the same?
Haha. NO!

If the job was vacant, you hire a Jerrod Calhoun or Ryan Odom and be done with it. If those aren't available, I'd go ahead and reach into the SoCon and buy a lottery ticket (to borrow a SMF term) in Bucky McMillan.

I think I'd take Rozie Nix over Corhen or Hugley. Tougher call between him and Fede.
