To something slightly above a college TV class final project. This is brutal.

The audio/video club of a local high school must be directing and producing this game. Espn3 isn't normally great but this is about the worst I've seen.

This is why I hate the ACC. No way in 2016 we should be relegated to watching a game broadcast like this.

Me too. I don't know where Pitt belongs, conference wise, but it is not the ACC. It is all about the southern schools who have been in that conference for a long time.

I've never heard a broadcast crew say as many inaccurate things about Pitt as these two guys said tonight. Especially the color guy.

That color guy was a hayseed, and the sideline "reporter" worked like they pulled her out of the fifth row ten minutes before tip.

There wasn't anything about that "broadcast" that wasn't an embarrassment. I don't know all the particulars of tv deals like a lot of guys in this board but the ACC has to do something. That was shameful.

How many foul shots were missed due to replays or wrong angle? Absolutley pathetic! But the thing is, even ACC network produced games miss live action due to replays. To me,NO REPLAY is worth missing live action.Even a free throw.Another pet peeve I have is a lot of times the announncers wont say what the call on the court was because of them running their mouth about some nonsense.

I turned them off almost immediately and listened to Billy and Dick. And you know my thoughts on Billy and Dick as announcers in 2016, so that's saying a lot.

As I said in the game thread the radio broadcast was at least a minute and a half ahead of ESPN3. So when Billy and Dick were completely perplexed by something* I just made sure to pay more attention to ESPN3 when it caught up so I could see what actually happened.

* - Best one tonight. The play when Pitt (I believe Robinson) had the ball in the backcourt and the Virginia Tech player went for the ball and it got knocked out of bounds. Billy and Dick first thought it was a foul, but then decided that maybe the Virginia Tech player knocked the ball out of bounds so it was Pitt's ball. They thought the refs were going to go to the monitor, but then they didn't. They really had no idea what was going on. When watching it on ESPN3 it was obvious that the ball went out of bounds and the refs did not know who touched it last, so they called a jump ball. Pitt retained possession because of the possession arrow. B&D never did figure it out.

And how many FTs did they fail to show? They must have missed showing at least a dozen foul shots.

+ the "little girl" who came out once in a while for some unknown reason with the high pitched multi tone voice reading from some poster board in front of her was great too? I felt like I was watching a school play.

That broadcast was an absolute embarrassment. Even little stuff like putting up Damon Wilson's name and stats when Johnson was at the foul line or showing the half by half score at halftime and already having the 2nd Half filled in before it was played.

But the announcers were so so bad. I have to believe those were VT's announcers based on how they were calling the game. It was a VT-centric call. When ESPN3 does a Pitt game, its Jeff Hathorn and Curtis Aiken so I'm guessing we got the VT equivalent. And for an important ACC game, that's uncalled for. They were bad. If ESPN didnt have room for the game, fine, but dont do that to us. It was painful to listen to Foghorn Leghorn all night. I kept waiting for him to start breaking down the next NASCAR race.

I think they were the ESPN3 PBA Bowling Leauge guys who just happened to be available for a Wednesday evening basketball game!
My wife is stats person and likes the announcers to provide stats like they do on real TV. Since wevHDMI'd the game on the big screen via the PC she had to break out another PC to look at the box score stats. The way we determined if it was a 3 pter or 2 was to look at the score change.

Ignoring the Old Rat's melodrama year's ago, wouldn't it have been glorious to have an Northeastern centered All Sports league today? It didn't happen for a ton of reasons that have been discussed ad nauseum, but a league that makes geographic sense and preserved and cultured historical rivalries would be so sweet.

Pitt, PSU, BC, Syracuse, Rutgers, Temple, WVU, Maryland, UConn, ND, perhaps VT, Cincy and the service acadamies. Ahh to dream. Tons of great media markets, a huge potential fan base, a tournament based in Madison Square Garden, a great television network.........RIVALRIES that make sense and are real, not manufactured!

I know it will never happen, like an on campus stadium and the return to royal blue and mustard yellow, but ahh, to dream!

I lost it when they said playing tough non conference games like Purdue and St Joe's prepared us for tight games in the ACC. Like do a little bit of homework before going on the air and talk about how playing a D 2 team had prepared us for ACC play

Lol. Those morons thought we played st joe's from Philly...wow.

Morgan Conklin was her name....cute as a button, voice like a cartoon character.....I'm guessing 16?? 17??
She was at least a bit comical.....the camera crew was almost as bad as the announcers. First-timers?? Should be one & done.

thus do bonuses become entitlements....

...it was not too long ago that no Pitt away games were on TV and your only choice was to listen on the radio

---i for one am grateful for ESPN 3

Funny, I was saying the same thing very recently...and took flack over it. Be sure, the ACC basketball television deal for the fans--blows. Hail to Pitt!

That broadcast was bad.
And yet we all were able to watch it.
Skippy I thought you live in ACC country!
You always tell everyone u get every game on prime time gold rated ACC sports programming that u pay extra for.
I always imagined ACC people coming to your residence with gold plated cables, commentators, etc to be sure you get the ACC premium service.
So you had to watch the espn3 crap tnat the rest of us have to deal with!Good!
ACC bball programing su-ks aleast for PITT.
But when the Big East collapsed after the NY, Boston, Washington and RI mob pulled their money out out the only other option would have be home and away series with Duquene, Slippery Rock, CMU, Grove City, and Carroll College. So thanks for the ACC???

I've watched a few games on ESPN3 against a few of the cupcakes that weren't anywhere near as bad as that trainwreck last night. Your point was never lost on me as it's never going to be as good as a broadcast on a real network but last night was a special kind of bad. At least those of us in Pittsburgh are lucky enough that Root picks up some games or even This TV which is a step down. But I'm still stunned at how amateurish and just plain awful it was last night.

I actually streamed it to a Smartv....first time I tried it. Took 3 minutes (HDMI) Not as good as a direct broadcast, but better than listening to our 2 superannuated broadcasters on the radio. Wish the telecast wasn't so dreadful.

Oh thats nice to know!
My wife and I thought her mom had just dropped off after having her braces removed for a HS extra credit project.
Definitely went home with a junior driver's license. Seemed like a sweet little lady. Probably as good as you'll get in Blacksburg.

Well, unfortunately there are $22 million reasons we joined the ACC. Televising regular season hoops games between "newcomers" wasn't one of them.

I believe the ACC football syndication is throughvRaycom which supposedly has some nepotism connection to Swofford but I don't know all the details of the basketball broadcast contracts. I guess ESPN has the rights. It was posted previously that we were told to move the game to Tuesday if we wanted a better broadcast outlet. We declined and this is what we got.

If we want better, we probably have to earn it. Duke put us on national TV. Pitt-VT is really only worth an Andy of Mayberry quality show right now. The market speaks.

Not THAT many years ago, I had to drive to the top of a neighbrhood hill and sit in my car on a winter night to listen to WTAE AM fade in and out while Sam Clancy outplayed Mike Gminski and beat Duke. ESPN 3 and streaming video is infinitely better than that. Buy a Roku, Chromecast, AppleTV, or Slingbox.
