We should play Army/Navy on a Semi-annual basis

We need to bring back these series. We used to play both every year and there is nothing more special than going to a game at West Point or Annapolis.

I would love to play Army and Navy over teams like Marshall or Rice.

Navy doesn't have room on their schedule. 8 American Conference games+Army+Air Force+Notre Dame = 11. They only have one game to work with. We won't see them again in the regular season unless they leave their conference.

Why? We stink against the triple option. Zero interest in playing either one.

So we play Navy every few years and Army every few years. We haven't played Army since the early 80s.

I'd love playing Navy; they are in the heart of a large base of alumni, and they are one of Pitt's more traditional opponents. But I don't think you understand, we won't be playing Navy in the regular season, EVER, if their American conference schedule remains an 8 game schedule and the number of regular season games remains capped at 12.

Here's the trick with scheduling. Both schools have to want to do it. Navy is not scheduling Pitt with their only remaining unscheduled slot. It will always be some sort of FCS tuneup game to open with. And if FCS games were legislated away, then it would be against some very beatable team that they could tune up on like a bottom barrel Sun Belt, CUSA, or MAC team. It is more realistic to get a series scheduled with Maryland, which is unlikely with the Big10 going to 9 games.

Army is possible. I'd have no problem with putting them on the schedule home and away. I'd love to have a reason to see a game at West Point.

Your point about the AAC makes sense.

Navy landlocked since stupidly joining that conf.
Army could. Nice trip there in fall.

While it doesn't mean that we can't play Army, let's keep in mind that Army has spent the last several years reducing the difficulty of their schedule because they realize they can't compete with the "big boys" of D1A football. Their schedule this season included Rice, UTEP, Buffalo, Lafayette, North Texas and Morgan State. Next year their schedule includes Fordham, Buffalo, Tulane, UTEP, Rice, Eastern Michigan and North Texas. They generally play one top level team per season, this year Notre Dame, next year Ohio State, and then the next best teams they schedule are low level ACC teams (Duke this year and next, Wake this year). They have Temple on the schedule both years and Temple is decent, but remember that those games were scheduled when Temple was a good bit worse than they are now.

Realistically, with the way they are currently scheduling there are only a couple of spots on the Army schedule that Pitt fits into.

I would love to see a game at West Point. I've been to Annapolis multiple times and have loved it every time. However, I've never been up to West Point.

I think the bigger issue is Army should be in the AAC with Navy.

In fact, I think those two should cobble together, along with the other best teams in the East, and some of the best teams in the West – including Air Force – and form what would clearly be the number six league.

I think there will be a lot of power in that.

There's too much cultural/geographical disconnect in the AAC. Also, there's too much loose fat.

The Mountain West has the same problem. There are just too many weeks sisters.

I think there's an opportunity to come together and take the best of each league and have a great number six.
