Weah vs. a true freshman

no passes thrown his way, no passes to Henderson...

Hate this vanilla offense crap just for penn state
I could only watch the first half due to family obligations--but Brown threw to Weah at least twice during that half, both times into double coverage, once in the end zone. Both really bad decisions and bad throws as well. After the second one the announce made a comment to the effect that he wouldnt expect a guy who's been playing college football as long as Browne to even attempt the throw.

Maybe he was 100% scripted with no freedom. That would be consistent with coach mandated plain Vanilla.

I meant no catch. We should have picked on that true freshman
He had safety help deep. They were paying a lot of attention to Weah. Would have been a good time to establish the TEs, the #3 WR, and some passes to the RBs.

Let me qualify this-this is what i saw in the first half. I would have expected them to keep that up and make us beat them downfield with someone other than Weah.

Consistently seeing the reasoning given as vanilla. For the outcome for the game this week, have to really hope it was just that it was "vanilla". Was I the only one to see YSU out physical our offensive line though? They got pressure to Browne alot, and I think that had more to do with his bad decisions at times (not that he should have done that either just because he felt pressure). Really hoping it was just "vanilla" playcalling and having a starting Olineman out. Honestly did not expect to see the line (defensive or offensive) get outmatched physically by an FCS team...

Yes, I think you were the only one that saw that. And it was vanilla... it was obvious.
We had this same conversation last year after the Villanova game, everyone was saying the offense sucked and penn state would kick our butts. Same script (no pun intended), different year. Anyone that thinks it wasnt intentional isnt thinking very hard.
That being said, I dont like it, I dont mind not showing your cards, but I think it was important to get Max Browne some confidence. The defense was very vanilla too, we did not blitz much at all the second half. Had a few called in the first half, but we ran straight rushes, very predictable sets.

You are 100% right. I believe there were calls for Canada to be fired as well. Of course now Canada is considered to be an offensive genius worth north of $1.5 million a season. LOL Hail to Pitt!

This absolutely did happen later in the game, whether "vanilla" or not. I am familiar and respectful of YSU and I won't argue with some claims that they are comparable to some MAC teams. And I respect MAC football too. Obviously they've put out fine talent. But MAC teams shouldn't have the advantage over our OL and DL either, at any points in the game. Our better collective talent and (assumed) better conditioning should particularly have taken over later. But it appeared the opposite happened. Possibly it was the impact of "vanilla"play... perhaps our linemen (and running backs for that matter) got bored! Well, that shouldn't be an issue from now on.
