When will an updated depth chart be released or even the depth chart going into week 1.

This board doesn’t have much conversation about what is going on at practice, who’s doing well, not so well, who’s moving up/down the depth chart. Is there a better place to look?

The reason there is no discussion of these things is because the coaching staff does not provide much, if any, useful info to the media. Everything is kept very secret. The best source for the limited info there is-is to watch the interview videos on the Pitt Official Athletic Site.

Well, shame on Narduzzi. He and Lyke should be smart enough to know that the media can be an instrumental tool in building excitement and thus ticket sales. I get it for game week, but spring and fall should have things wide open.

They don't want any early season opponents to scout them this way. So, they keep what is being practiced close, then play plain vanilla the first game against a weaker opponent and don't show any of the good stuff until the first strong opponent.

So, we won't know much until we see them play vs PSU.

However, we will see a 2-deep right before the Albany game, I do believe.

Got reminded this morning--Chris Peak's 3-2-1 columns generally synthesize all the limited camp info and are worth a read--especially if one lacks the time and energy to watch all the official site coach and player interviews.

Honestly I can’t wait to see the depth chart, I am really happy the WR from Indiana has been cleared, that was oline are my biggest concerns

Yes, ticket sales really plummeted this year due to no information about practices. Narduzzi, being head coach of the football team, SHOULD be smart enough to know that the media should be allowed free reign and that trumps any football related issue.

If anything, to your point, I can see Lyke having a media relations person making sure all the Pitt websites like this one get any questions answered they may have. Narduzzi's job isnt to get fans, but to try to get wins, we have other people trying to bring in the fans.

Just think of the entire team as "co-starters".

Well, I don’t agree with you, which is fine. I think it needs to be a university effort to get fans in the stands. That would include Athletic Department, coaches, players, fans, other students and heck, even the faculty. It’s a team effort, not the effort of 1 or 2 people that’s going to fix the issue.

Winning will fix the issue.

ok, so now how do we do that? Recruit better I'd say. so to recruit better we need more people in the stands. see how this circle works?
I just don't buy that excuse. Recruiting starts with the coaches and relationships. Now I will admit that bigger crowds certainly will help with some kids, but doesn't prohibit a decent class.

hmm, you know what farnox, I don't even really disagree with you to be honest.

The chicken and the egg argument that happens with fan showing up and how it relates to winning is way more straight forward than people think. In our case, we know which came first. The last time we had sustained success (70's-80's), the school decided to win again, brought in a staff and gave them what they needed to win, then people showed up to support them as they proved they meant business. The fan base stopped caring when the school stopped caring.

This is the same argument the Pirates ownership likes to give, which is just as wrong: If you show up more, we'll have more money to spend and get a better team. What this ignores is that these teams are essentially a business. No business, in history, has EVER been successful by telling patrons that if they buy a garbage product for long enough they'll be rewarded with a better one. You have success by investing in the good product first, driving up demand, then using the returns from that to further invest.

Blaming the fans is the weakest argument you can possibly have.

I don’t agree with you. I don’t think winning will put 60k in the stands on a week to week basis for Pitt. Winning will put 60k in the stands for big games or “events”, but Duke, Georgia Tech etc won’t. The groups I mentioned need to work on building a loyal fanbase, not poaching bandwagon fans.

There will never be 60k in the stands on a consistent basis. Zero chance, it doesn't matter what they do. Forget about that number.

To put things in perspective, the Steelers averaged 62,471 while being sold out. That's 6k no shows a week for the Steelers.

If Pitt could average 10k less than the Steelers it would be a minor miracle.

If 50k a week is an unreachable goal for Pitt football, then close up shop and drop football or drop to a lower level.

I just told you the Steelers only averaged 62k. 27th out of 32 teams in the NFL. 50k in the same city for a college team is a good number. The FBS average is 42k. Why would anyone expect Pitt to draw like the Steelers?

The mentality that Pitt should drop football or drop a level if they can't average unrealistic attendance numbers is a part of the perception problem. That cavernous yellow hell hole they play in only exasperates the issue.

Pitt's stuck there for the foreseeable future, so best to forget about it.

For a long time, Pitt has had a core 30,000 fan base. When times are good, they will pick up another 10-20 thousand casual fans at games. When they are not, you will only have that core at games. However, if Pitt starts to win consistently, then those numbers will improve. The last 30 years of inconsistent support by the University has not helped.
