Were awful. My son and I went to the game. Drunken awful red necks all game long. Weve been to 12 road games in the past 4 years, and we thought this would be the most pleasant, being a smaller place with a team that doesnt have much of a following, it was by far the worse. Bottles thrown, cans thrown, non stop cussing. It was embarrassing for the whole area.

I would severely doubt another P5 school would schedule a home and home with them again.

Toledo fans were piss poor too. Pitt has to stop playing these MAC schools away. Pitt has nothing to gain by playing them.
It all comes down to money as to why we play WV and these MAC teams on the road. In a perfect world we wouldn’t have to associate with these dregs.

Where we sat they were very nice. Very welcoming. But we were around a slightly older crowd.

But I did hear some other horror stories from other pitt fans we were talking to.

The MAC has such a good thing going, basically unearned. They command the same $ as the FCS schools because in theory it's not a hard win but there are a lot less of them than the FCS schools and they always count towards bowl eligibility (only one FCS win counts.) Really they and the Sun Belt should be playing FCS but they can afford FBS by getting these lose to Ohio State paychecks.

I agree with the sentiment many have expressed. Nobody should be playing games with any of these low grade dog food schools. But if Pitt indeed feels it absolutely has no choice but to play these breather games, play the lowest level easiest ones possible.

I mean MAC schools are the equivalent of Cal U, IUP, Slippery Rock, etc. Those kids are attending those schools for a reason.

77-21 and probably bussed in and out the same day.

Kalamazoo is a depressed beaten down City. A lot of homeless people. Was surprised to see that. The people and fans I met were all friendly although at the game many came across as unsophisticated, immature and cliché. Like they were characters from a Stephen King novel. Ringing cow bells and wearing “bronco heads after their first touchdown. Very high school atmosphere. We came across one drunk WMU fan who passed by without incident. I was surprised to hear Narduzzi’s comments.
What I saw was a friendly crowd. Ridiculous wait and inconvenient access for the very basic concession items they served.
The Pitt team stayed in Grand Rapids about 1 hour north and bused down ahead of the game. No suitable accommodations in Kalamazoo.
Basically, expensive pain in the ass and a no win
game.
Bad series to schedule home and away!

Yea, the Gradkowski game had a very HS atmosphere but heck, I think I was like 3 rows from the field for $10 or so back then. The stands were so close to the field, you could hear the players and coaches talk. Neat place to take in a game. Went up to Akron also in the hardest rain I've ever been outside in. That game had no atmosphere as there were literally less than 20 people in seats. Everyone standing under the upper deck.

Weirdest thing about the Toledo game is they had the Michigan/Oregon game on the jumbotron pre-game. Not highlights. The whole game.

I worked for a multi-national company with businesses all over the united States and i had a boss who would
threaten managers with transfers to Kalamazoo, Michigan when he got mad at a manager who he felt was underperforming.
Since then, i have always had a negative feelng about this place.

Toledo is a big Michigan Wolverine town.

It was interesting... Students were all hammered and acting like complete idiots, but half of them left after the first quarter.

Yeah. They announced some raffle or something for the students to win $100, but they had to be there at the end to win it.

Obviously didn't work.

It was probably 75/25 rooting AGAINST Michigan (OSU fans) but I didn't know the whole history. Apparently Toledo was a disputed area between Michigan and Ohio and that's where a lot of the animosity between the 2 states comes from. I do remember there being a good number of Michigan fans in that area.

By disputed, do you mean each state wanted the other to take Toledo?

and what would that be?
Really? They couldn't get into the better schools. More of a "lower class" student population. I know I'll get slammed for saying that but it is what it is. Surely, you can become greatly successful by attending one of those schools as college is what you make of it. But, if we're going by averages, students at Western Michigan, WVU, Cal U, IUP, etc are less intelligent and come from less affluent family backgrounds than students at Mich, Pitt, PSU, etc. Again, ON AVERAGE. The student at WMU, WVU, IUP, etc are basically the same type of kid

So an Engineering or Math major (my major at a branch campus dummy institution) from Western Michigan is "less intelligent" than an elementary education or gender studies major from Pitt...got it..

Yes, our prestigious Ivy league institutions struggle with the concept of what constitutes a woman or a man while spewing 12 pronouns and make up absurd words like LatinX while preaching about diversity from the standpoint of 95% of their faculty having the same political leanings constitute our most "intelligent" class of folks...hahahaha

This was probably more true years ago. I think many kids are choosing these smaller schools given they are understanding that where you get your undergraduate degree from doesn't matter very much when compared to the extra debt you'll accrue. I've had a successful IT career but I don't think the fact that I went to Pitt over someplace like IUP helped me one bit given I've used almost nothing in my career from what I learned in school.

This 100%. I’ve never preferred one candidate over another based on where they attended school (unless it’s Pitt ;)). In all seriousness, I place more weight in the overall body of work. Most schools use similar publishers now anyways, so you’re getting the same level of education at most schools.

Since we currently live in Kansas City, I’d prefer my own kids to attend KU or the local UM system school and save money on tuition and room/board. If you want to spend serious money on a degree, do it on grad school. Just my opinion, though.

Agreed. I honestly wish I hadn't gone to Pitt. I work with a lot of people who went to places that costed a lost less. I didn't take school all that seriously anyway (got pretty good grades, but didn't exert much effort). I just wasn't mature enough at the time (still may not be). So I could have gone to CCAC or Harvard, and it wouldn't have mattered: My learning wasn't really going to begin until I began working in my field.

It is a disputed area. I don't know why and how, it is not like it is some gerrymandered weird extension like the panhandle of West Virginia. In fact if you follow the Mich/Oh border west until it ends, you run into Indiana for some reason has 10 more miles or northern territory.

But yes, had a couple of coworkers grew up there and were Michigan fans. Alot of guys in that area like Charles Woodson in FB, Jimmy Jackson in BB went to Michigan instead of Ohio State.

In the case of some of the more extreme fanbases, it’s better just to ignore their antics. They get off on the outrage it causes and it just makes them amp it up further. That especially goes for coaches in their remarks as well. Narduzzi mentioning the abuse of players by WVU fans will just make them more determined to get violent, and clearly WVU’s dog crap administration gleefully condones it, or it would crack down on it. WMu appears to be exactly the same; no doubt their security didn’t lift a finger to stop what happened, and it’s unlikely WMu would issue any kind of public remorse, because they likely have no remorse for it.

Normally there would be some criticism by the media that would publicly pressure the offending school to act properly, but if anything Pittsburgh media was likely very happy that this crap was happening. Their only likely critique is that WMu‘s thug tactics didn’t badly injure any of Pitt’s players or coaches. So, as always, nothing helpful from those d- bags.

Therefore, the only impactful response would be for Pitt to refrain from further scheduling any of those programs. WMu? You are dead to us. Yeah WVU as well if there is any of that garbage next season. Hit ‘em in the pocketbook, it’s the only pain that will work. F them.

I think that is so true of many of us. I mean sure some basics, but I swear to god I know more math and chemistry now than when I actually was supposed to study it because then it was just a bunch of meaningless formulas that I had no real interest in. It's funny, I guess my longterm memory must be better than the short term because I knew more than I thought.

Really dude? Of course an engineering student at a crap school is more intelligent than a Communications major at Pitt or PSU on the average. You really need me to say that? And does WMU even have engineering? They may. WVU does. But most shit schools do not so you have a bunch of 910 on SAT's walking around campus

Jimmy Jackson played for OSU

I did not know SAT was a metric for intelligence. You are doing this again.

They went to war over it. No one died in the war, and only one man was wounded, but they were ready to go to battle. Michigan was in the process of declaring statehood and wanted to claim Toledo. Ohio told them to F off. The President stepped in- he decided to award Michigan that weird strip of land attached to Wisconsin above Lake Michigan as a compromise.

I mean, I was a psychology major who was running late for Abnormal Psychology one day (first day of that class). My social anxiety was so high back then that instead of walking into class late, I dropped it and changed my major. As it turns out, I'd have never made it in psychology because of all the reading involved. I have ADHD like nothing some have ever seen before. Simply put: I can't read. I dated a girl who got her doctorate from Pitt in psychology. The amount of reading I watched her do over the six years we were together made me physically sick.

So I ended up in accounting, since I had already taken like two or three classes in it at the time. But that just goes to show how silly it all is. Obviously I wasn't treating those accounting classes very seriously when I was going to major in something completely different. Then again, I didn't treat my accounting classes very seriously afterwards either. My M.O. was usually to get an A on the midterm, stop going to class after that, and then get something respectable enough on the final so that I could still pull off a B at a minimum.

Yea, the more intelligent you are the more likely you are to be better at math and reading. It is amazing to me that you guys don't believe that. Like there's a bunch of geniuses in rural Appalachia who score 810s on SAT's but have higher IQ's than the kids who score 1490 and go to an Ivy League school.
