Pretty clear you have to get someone who knows money and fundraising and NIL. Maybe take a look at top twenty NIL fund raisers and offer a current associate AD or someone within a surprising school the job. I do not know who is in top twenty but you probably steer away from anyone from Texas or Ohio State or any other school that simply will get funds just because. But say there is someone like Boise State on that list (doubtful but…) go after them like hell.

I know that Darelle Revis posted about Chris LaSala but if he had ideas different than Lyke he wasn’t able to convince her of them.

I have seen names like Pat Bostick, Fitz, Reddick and Wanny thrown out there but this is a time to go after an out of the box brilliant mind and perhaps set a future that works and would work even if the person left in years to come.

We need a wartime consigliere. College sports is going to look a lot different in 4 or 5 years. We can’t afford to have some affable Pitt lifer in that seat. We need a cutthroat savage that will do what it takes for Pitt to succeed. Find some private equity executive that wants to dabble in college sports for a few years. Some PE a-hole should be able to find some way to magnify pitt’s strengths and ignore the weakness. I don’t care if they stay a while, they just need to beg borrow and steal to make sure Pitt has a seat at the table when this is all said and done.

An NIL fundraiser. The #1 priority for any athletic department is making sure the football and basketball players get paid as much as possible. We don't necessarily need anyone with college athletics administration experience. We need a salesman who can golf and have dinner with the power players and shake them down. I think a politician or former politician would be good at this. Also, I'd look into the corporate world. I would take a look at former US Representative from Pittsburgh and Florida State football walk-on, Jason Altmire. He checks so many boxes (fundraising as a politician, football history, currently in academia).

I said this a few years ago, but Sy Holzer would have been a tape measure home run for this position in thos NIL world

No one in this city was more connected to corporate pittsburgh and the citys wealthiest families than Mr Holzer, who was at the top of the PNC bank food chain.

Sadly, Mr Holzer passed a few months ago, and while we will never know if Pitt would have reached out and he accepted....those that knew him would have to agree this is the direction Pitt has to go.....

BTW,

I have made my position clear. I will not give NIL a nickel.

I have changed my viewpoint on this. If Pitt brings in a mercenary / rainmaker, i am opening my wallet.

If they bring in some slapdick asst AD from Purdue, im going golfing.

Pitt fans....like fans of any sports team, get the team they deserve.

Show me you mean business and i am in.

I also mentoned Holzer a few AD searches ago. We dont need the Deputy AD at Georgia to come in. I'd prefer to hire Georgia's NIL President.

The AD's job is to get players paid and dont mess up football and basketball. That's it.

Genco is serving 15-20 years. What if we get Tom Hagen?

The real question though is Gabel like Vito, Michael or Santino?

Football #1. Men's Basketball #1A...Whatever it takes, NIL or otherwise.....nothing else matters...Now, get off my lawn.

Someone who will make/keep FB & BB fully competitive with top of ACC---and will prevent all other Pitt sports from backslding into the oblivion where they were for decades.

Ummmm, I think we should find someone who is good with kids. And, like, someone who is, like, confident but not cocky. Eww, gross!!... HUGE turnoff. And, like, maybe someone who can stay in and watch a movie but also likes to get dressed up and go out sometimes. And someone who def isn't afraid to get his/her hands dirty. And, like, some other stuff too, you know?

As I've said before: business background > athletics background is what I would prioritize.
