What channel is "This TV" on Comcast? Game is carried there tonight!

Not really intending to get involved in your personal pissing match...but to a point I have made several times this season, the ACC basketball television package is far inferior to what the Big East used to have. I have DirecTv, subscribe to both the SportsPack, as well as FullCourt offerings. Where and whether the Pitt game will be carried on the DirecTv line up, whether it will be blacked out and finding it are always a challenge. And yes, there have been several ACC games where Pitt was playing which were not available to me. A far inferior basketball package than what fans used to have. Certainly hope it improves over time. Hail to Pitt!

For Philadelphia, yes. You see less Pitt games. Same with NY. DC its about the same.

The problem is the Philly and NY OTA stations dont buy the Raycom games. In the old BE days, those would be ESPN Regional games shown on MSG or Comcast SportsNet Philly or whatever.

So, yes, in some markets, you have less Pitt on your TV. However, stream all Pitt games live on ESPN3 or theacc.com. If the stream is blacked out, its because a RSN in your area is showing the game.

Sorry, but this is simply false in Eastern PA with Verizon. Sometimes the only option is purchasing the game via ESPN Fullcourt/Gameplan because it is otherwise blacked out via ESPN3. Maybe this is because the game is randomly being broadcast on some weirdo non-HD channel, but if it is, it never shows up via the Verizon search function.
Not false if ESPN3 is blacked out for you it's because it's broadcast on your tv channels .
That's it that's the list .

If the quality sucks complain to your local affiliate .
Hd every game ...
Except maybe western Carolina.

As I point out before, ten years ago there were 10 Pitt games that you could not watch at all no matter where you lived unless you bought a ticket and went to the arena, including games against other P5 schools. This year that total is 0. The last year Pitt was in the Big East there were numerous games that were only available on ESPN3, a couple games that were only available to Pittsburgh area Comcast subscribers, and several more games that were only available on Pitt's web site.

The fact is that when it comes to television coverage people remember a past that just simply did not exist.

ESPN3 and an $18 chromecast

Was not familiar with Chromecast, and may add it to my technology. However, the issue in Philadelphia [as I presume is the case in some other places] is that the Raycom syndication has been picked up by a local station that is not included on the DirecTv lineup. Accordingly, the ESPN3 broadcast is also blacked out--and ESPN Gameplan also is blacked out because theoretically the game is available by the Raycom snydicate. For instance, the Philadelphia local ABC affiliate was to broadcast one of the Pitt games, but it was on the Saturday when we received the big snow storm. Of course the ABC affiliate opted to drop the Pitt game and went with all day reporting on the snow. The Pitt feed was kicked to some crazy station which also is/was not part of the DirecTv line up. I understand those that have Comcast have had similar issues with several Pitt broadcasts this season. Bottom line, the ACC basketball television deal is far worse for many fans in a number of markets--and I just don't see how anyone would debate or argue otherwise. Hail to Pitt!

And I'm not really trying to be difficult..but, it's only blacked out if it's not on your directv subscription package.
I also have directv, which is why I'm suggesting it. Maybe your favorite channels list don't have the channel listed..but, it's available to you.

Well I am only speaking about the market in which I live, which is Philadelphia. There have been several games that were NOT available to me this season. ESPN3 was a very workable solution, which I could live with. Several of the ESPN3 broadcasts have been blacked out in Philadelphia because the feed was being "carried" by the Raycom syndicate which is not carried on DirecTv channel line up. I do not know what percentage of Pitt fans have cable versus satellite...but a television package which does not work for one of them--is problematic. I'm not really concerned with the Pittsburgh market, as I do not live there...I live in the largest television market in the state...and if you cannot see Pitt play, I'd say that is a real weakness in the ACC television plan. Hail to Pitt!

Trust me, I have the SportsPack as well as ESPN Fullcourt [or on ESPN3], there have been several ACC conference games that were not available to me this season--I spent a couple of hours on the phone with the folks at DirecTv--which they ultimately confirmed. The games were allegedly being carried on some Spanish language ABC affiliate which is not available on DirecTv. During the snow storm, the feed was thrown to a "cable network" which again was not part of the DirecTv lineup. As you undoubtedly know, DirecTv is national in scope, EXCEPT when it comes to the local network channels they carry in a particular market. The Raycom syndication thing does not work well in the Philadelphia market. Hail to Pitt!

To pick a nit..
You ACTUALLY mean the Philly local affiliates aren't interested in buying the syndication package of ACC games.
It's not the ACC's fault your local affiliates didn't want to prioritize were to broadcast those games.
Their job is to make the most money they can by selling those packages...not making it cheap so it's readily available.

In the future, if its blacked out on ESPN3, check theacc.com. They live stream some of the Raycom games.

Nope, you might try reading. The syndication has been picked up...but by a station that nobody can get--unless you have bunny ears? Real value for the league and its fans there, eh? While I certainly understand the interest in making money [which I support]--selling the syndication that nobody can get probably makes little to no sense financially--since ratings will be nonexistent. Hopefully the ACC does better in selling the syndication to a more readily available source for next season. As I said, in my market, the ACC basketball coverage is less than adequate--but I've managed to live and get by just fine. Hail to Pitt!

I read it just fine. Perhaps take another run at reading my post. Your beef is with Philly TV stations, not the ACC.

Thanks,

No, my complaint is directed toward the ACC primarily, and secondarily to DirecTv and Raycom. A Philadelphia local station has purchased the Raycom syndication...but they are not part of the DirecTv lineup. So yeah, the ACC sold the package to Raycom...but Raycom sold it to a station that nobody can receive. Brilliant! Hopefully the ACC Network becomes reality and cuts out the Raycom boys, as that likely will solve the problem. Of course if Pitt had been a bit more competitive on the court last season, perhaps they would have been selected for more ESPN/ABC/CBS games, which again would have solved the problem. Looks like I will be able to watch VaTech via ESPN3, which is an acceptable alternative from my perspective. Hail to Pitt!

Correction, they sold it to a Philly station you don't get.
That's not an ACC problem.
Hope that helps.

Its the ACC's fault for keeping Raycom in business and that we have to deal with these silly syndicated games like its 1983. I think that's part of his point. The ACC is the last major conference that syndicates. Time to end that!

Umm..You do understand the BE did, too?
Difference is, since there was a BE team in Philly- it got broadcast on a better channel.

And the BE sold it for alot cheaper.

I'd rather Pittlaw have trouble finding a game once in awhile..and Pitt pocket the extra $13mil annually from better TV revenue streams.

It is a problem when hyper basketball fans that subscribe to FullCourt, SportsPacks, and all the bells and whistles with satellite service from the premiere sports satellite company are not able to get a game. Yes, that means the ACC is having trouble selling their product in the 4th largest media market in the United States. Hey, I am a major Pitt sports fan...the general public is not going to go to the trouble to see Pitt play that I do. So yes, it is a major reflection of a poor package, despite the increase in monetary value. The ACC needs to get where the other Power5 conferences are with television coverage. Besides getting paid, the point of getting paid is exposure for the program. Exposure is not happening if you cannot watch the game. Hail to Pitt!

It's a reflection of a lack of interest in ACC hoops in Philly.

Well if the best you can do is getting your P5 conference on a second tier Spanish language channel in the 4th largest television market, then yes, the ACC has a major television problem. No issues receiving Big12, B1G, Big East, American or SEC games here in Philadelphia. Hail to Pitt!

You have the patience of a saint! But you're right. I have Verizon in the Philly market and there have been a handful of games both in football and basketball this year that have been blacked out due to coverage on the mystery Spanish channel. Typically, the games are syndicated on the mighty Live Well channel.

My parents didn't believe in cable so trust me, I'm an expert at being able to locate Pitt games via any and all unconventional means, given my experience while living at home. Yes, relatively speaking, coverage is way better than 10 years ago, but comparitively speaking to other "major" conferences, the ACCs coverage in philly is poor. You see more AAC, A-10 and even Colonial games. I know there are local teams involved in those conferences, but I'd have to believe Pitt/Louisville would beat out Drexel/Towson.

Then you both need to communicate that to your local affiliates .

They don't agree so they aren't buying it.

This really isn't complicated.

You are attempting to change the subject, which is of course what you must do--as factually speaking, if you live in the Philadelphia television market, the ACC television deal is simply inferior to the other P5 conferences, and even to that of the prior Big East deal. As I said, despite the inferior picture/sound quality of an ESPN3 broadcast, I can live with that alternative--just don't black it out in my market because you sold the rights to a channel that nobody can receive. Hopefully this all changes soon, but so far, the first three years of the ACC basketball television package is crap where I live. I am not commenting on the football television package, as I go to all the games and luckily am not forced to deal with that. Hail to Pitt!

PITTLAW, you are correct---ACC BB coverage sucks, period--not even close to what it was in the old BE---but SOUF is never wrong and will never admit when he's caught in a losing discussion---I admire you for persisting

The Big East syndicated through ESPN Regional. The ACC syndicates through Raycom and Fox Sports South. That's the #1 problem in the NE corridor. OTA stations dont want to buy ACC games but Raycom doesn't sell to anyone but. ESPN Regional would sell to anybody. Case in point, they sold WVU Big 12 games to PCNC.

Most knew there would be an issue in philly area. ACC is shortsighted not to push Raycom to bend some in certain areas.
