Lets say it is proven true that Paterno covered up child rape for 35 years (which will be near impossible to do) other than everyone knowing for sure that he is a dirtbag, what does it matter? There wont be any further probation and it will not affect their program in any way. Recruits dont care about stuff like this.

For me, this doesnt change anything. I've known for a long time that Paterno was scum of the Earth, so when I heard these allegations, I thought "yea, makes sense."

Paterno is dead. Sandusky is in jail. PSU already got their wrist slapped and there will be no further wrist slappings. So, in terms of football, this is just stuff for message boards and blogs. It has no effect on football.

correct nothing new as far as penalties would come of it. The only thing is it would rub the cultist noses in it, for refusing to believe what was right in front of them. But there is no way that there is ever going to be some sort of smoking gun. There will likely be more evidence but nothing is going to come out that %100 proves the cover up. It would require one of the PSU assistant's to come forward and commit career suicide. Even if sandusky finally realizes he is going to rot in prison the rest of his life, people could question his motives and are you going to totally believe a serial rapist.

Sad, but true. I actually do not care what it does for football, those who let it go on are no longer there. The only issue for me are the cult members who show no remorse and only care about how it will affect THEIR lives, like THEY are the true victims. It really disgusts me!

At this point, I don't see many sane people saying it is about football anymore. Or how much the victims have and continue to suffer. Its about his deified legacy burning in hell and watching the self righteous, pompous, condescending, pretentious staters deservedly squirm. Maybe you're not old enough to get it.

Guys no offense, but if this happened at Pitt would you really want them to have a football program? I personally would never care if we played another down of football or, for that matter, another sport ever again.

They kept it quiet because they didn't want to tarnish the complete lie they built their program and entire university around, "Success With Honor." To be honest, the football program should suffer the most because if the school didn't have a football team and some random professor raped a kid in a bathroom in 1971, he would have immediately gone to jail and that would have been the end of it. The first inclination wouldn't be "let's call the school" it would have been "let's call the cops."

This entire thing continues to get more and more disgusting. I couldn't care less that it effects the players who had nothing to do with it. The place is a garbage heap. They literally let a guy prey on children for 40 years for the sake of their athletic department's image...I'm sorry, it shouldn't exist anymore. The Big Ten and the NCAA will find a way to go on without them.

This is again in the National news, therefore in the national mindset therefore reaffirming to people nationwide that the whole "Success with honor grand experiment" mantra was always pure bullsh!t.

That's what this means to me.

I get it. His legacy is totally destroyed because anyone outside the cult will now only remember paterno for this, not football. It's his idiot followers who revolved their pathetic lives around him that are the problem. It's like USA Today article said, "Yet as word of the allegations dating back to the 1970s surfaced — creating questions about the established narrative suggesting Penn State officials heard nothing about Sandusky’s crimes until 1998 — the school reacted exactly as its detractors would have predicted: by ardently defending its former football coach." They are going to defend paterno until they go to their graves because they were so stupid as to make paterno and PoSU football their identity.
That includes the entire university. Joe Paterno IS PoSU and PoSU IS Joe Paterno.
Think about The University of Pittsburgh, is this university tied to ONE person? When you think of Pitt, do you just think of one person?

I want the truth to be brought forward. I hope every person that was raped by that monster to have their voice heard and not be bullied by the PS Mafia.

No more sanctions or convictions but it will be a major PR issue for Nitter U for a longtime.
A while back I read one report which stated applications were down and applications of top students were really down.
Enrollment will never be down at Nitter U they'll just lower the standards.
So at the end of the day it will have a negative impact on the U.
Maybe some recruits might think twice about attending especially with lots of U's being critical of the Nitters.

I had a friend way back when and her older brother went to PoSU. He and his girlfriend knew I was a Pitt fan and would always sing this stupid chant, "if you can't afford a college, go to Pitt!" I thought they were a-holes then, I wonder what they are thinking now. I'm still thinking they are a-holes.

I would support a self imposed shutdown of the football program and move on to support another form of entertainment.

Frankly, I quit watching/going to Steelers games for keeping the rapist and hiring a dog murdered to back him up. F' them too.

YES, absolutely! 1000% YES!!! Football didn't cause this and future football should not end because of it. In all honesty, Penn State was unlucky the day they recruited Sandusky. It by no means has anything to do with football itself. Ending football won't prevent any future child molestation, unless they recruit the next Sandusky. If Sandusky was an associate professor in the biology department and the head of the department knew he was molesting high school students for years, would you cancel the biology program?

Not me, that's just stupid! Shutting down football won't effect anything in a positive way, Vick served his time and should be welcomed back to society with no strings attached, Ben was never convicted of anything, never even arrested or charged, potentially it may have been gold digging sluts looking for a pay day.

I appreciate your sentiments, but there's waaay too much money involved. Just as banks have gotten too big to fail, some conferences have gotten too big to fail as well.

What does this have to do with the Nits? Think back to when the sanctions were first announced: many people wondered why the Nits weren't banned from television appearances - as they should've been. It was because of Big Ten money.

Add up TV money, the sell of merchandise, the effects on the local economy....hell, didn't the Nits even get to play a game in Ireland? Some sanctions those were....

ironically, I hated vick all the time at va tech, despised him with falcons, and actually started liking him once I found out about the dog fighting.. Although as a steeler fan, I don't want him on my team..

Money. That's what matters.

Look at Barron's letter and think a little about how things have gone since the Grand Jury leak. You can argue that outside of a few scholarships and a few wins, the football team saw very little in the way of a downturn. You can actually argue that it was pretty much status quo.

Economically, though, the money that has been shelled out really is more like an investment. The $60 million dollar penalty ended up back in PA with a bit of it going back to PSU (Penn State Center for the Protection of Children). But since PSU is funded by PA, it was more or less a balance sheet transfer for the state. The $90 million in settlements are still an open matter but the little one liner in the judge's order that started this whole thing over was effectively a win for PSU. I'd bet they recover most of that money before it's all said and done but the terms of that settlement won't be disclosed.

Today, PSU believes they are a year or two from competing for the conference championship, looking at dumping millions into the football stadium, and revenue is way up.

Outside of Happy Valley, everyone hates them and can't believe how tone deaf the university and alumni are to what appears obvious to everyone. Inside of Happy Valley, they're down one statue and have two more on the way. Nothing to see here. We Are, because He Was.

We're all silly to think otherwise.

Couldn't one easily claim that football is the reason this was overlooked for 40 years though? I think to everyone outside of Central PA it's pretty obvious why this got suppressed....

I don't see why taking away a sport is over the line when the sport is probably the main reason the university never did anything about it.

Here's where I politely disagree with you on the facts and circumstances. It's not football anymore, It's not Sandusky directly nor Penn State as a school for learning. It's about the cult worshipping Joe Paterno.

When Judge Glazer releases this sealed deposition, there will be at least 5 people attesting to a covered up sex crime in 1971 and 1976. It will be confirmed that Penn State paid a settlement to these 1971 and 1976 victims.

BUT, coupled with Joe Paterno's own words in his 2011 grand jury deposition, it confirms everything in "Joe's own words." The cult will hear Joe ~ it will be irrefutable. In his own words will mean everything. The cult will genuflect to his voice. And in the case of the grand jury testimony, it is on video.

Like Nixon, it's not going to be the cover up that buries Joe Paterno, it is going to be the lie....on video and in court documents, audio and video.

all this crap does is unite the fanbase though, galvanizes them. I have no clue what that word means btw. Sandusky nation will unite in this us against the world mentality.. good for them, whack jobs that they are..

I want the truth to be brought forward. I hope every person that was raped by that monster to have their voice heard and not be bullied by the PS Mafia.

If Sandusky gets a re-trial, you'll get everything you want in the truth. These victims will testify.

Applications are already back to record numbers. There was a short period in decreased applications but it back to normal. They had 130,754 applications.

You may want to consider that your value system is similar what caused this whole mess in State College and why they should have ignored the financial impact to do the right thing.

As for Ben, talk to some his former entourage if you want to realize how silly your comments are at this point.

My comments align with my values, I want the Steelers to win, Ben's not in jail, winning is more likely-nothing's PROVEN, could have been lying, gold digging whores looking to GET PAID. Have you yourself talked to Ben's entourage? Anyways football is like a TV show or a rock concert-NOTHING MORE-just ENTERTAINMENT, so the players can act like Keith Richards or Charlie Sheen off the field and I still want to watch, just for my selfish entertainment purposes, MY priority #1.

If I was them or if this happened at Pitt, no way in hell would I voluntarily punish myself. If I murdered someone I'd never turn myself in, I'd do everything I could to cover up and keep out of jail. So sure, I see their point of view about football, I'd never give in, SOMEBODY ELSE, like the NCAA would have to kill my program from the outside.

Honestly, if JoePa had just fired and banished Sandusky from day one the 1st day he figured this out, he would not have lost money, that's where he screwed up. He could have easily covered t up if when he 1st heard of an incident in the '70s, at that point forced Sandusky to resign and leave town under threat of prosecution.

OK, so this is more about laughing at PSU fans that have worshipped their god for decades. Their god was a fake. OK, yea, its cool to make fun of them for their idiocy but this doesn't do much for me. Very few cultisits will have their opinions changed.

It's also about "Over the Top, PC America 2016", something bad happens and we need to find "closure" for the victims as we weep uncontrollably to make our point, and of course we need to prosecute and convict with no evidence so as not to disrespect the victim! So ONE MAN, was a pedophile, who worked at Penn State, so now we have to shut down a massive football program, Or since a guy killed a dog or two 10 years ago, then went on to play for the Steelers after doing jail time, or another guy is accused and NOT ARRESTED, CHARGED OR CONVICTED of any crime, we have stop rooting for the Steelers. It's all OVER THE TOP BS, like throwing the baby out with the bath water, or amputating from the elbow to cure a hangnail! Honestly, the real perpetrators are gone. They've been punished get over it. So the cultists STILL love their football team, and I STILL love MY Steelers, it's not your fcccking problem to legislate our morality.

I don't think its about punishing or legislating the program it's more about bringing shame to paterno and his fans.. Until this is accepted by the faithful in psu, we should continue to bring it up. I will use the Nazi/hitler comparison again, I want psu fans to feel shame on the level that germans do about their past.. Then and only then, shall I be content to move on..

79 - it's the fact that they covered it all up for 40 years that makes me feel like if the entire program disappeared, then who cares. There is nothing "PC" about that. They put the safety of kids beneath the image of the university. It's disgusting, morally bankrupt and appalling. They deserve whatever comes to them if they, in fact, covered it up all this time.

And for the record I am a registered Republican and have no qualms that the Steelers signed Michael Vick.

Haha - I was more saying that for the sake of his PC and Vick analogies. If they knowingly covered this up for 40 years then the entire university, not just the athletic department, deserve a hell of a lot more than a bowl ban. In my opinion that has jack with being politically correct. It's what is right.

This recent development would be a non-story, if the nitters were not so damn determine to roll back sanctions, restore 409, create a new statue of the old man, and rewrite the facts concerning who knew what.

Also the methods they have used to go about "seeking the truth" (rioting, intimidation, silencing critics, etc..) has made everyone outside of happy valley determined to keep the issue alive.

They have themselves to blame...

THEY covered it up for 40 years... THEY, JoePa and whoever worked there then. Not the fans, players or the current people involved. It's like asking for reparations for slavery? I'm to the left of Bernie Sanders, but on that issue, I'm like "FCCK YOU! Hey, I've been to Gori, Republic of Georgia, Joe Stalin's hometown. His giant statue overlooks the town square, you can go see his house, THEY LOVE HIM. You can't legislate stuff like that. If they want a statue of JoePa on their campus, who say's outsiders have any right to stop it? And honestly, who cares?

If he would have walked Sandusky down to the police station, had a press conference, in 1971 and announced he was filing pedophile charges against him, he would have been a hero, it wouldn't have hurt his program.

It is when YOUR morality negatively affects OTHERS. But I can tell from your posts that you really don't care about others, just yourself, so it doesn't really matter. Your way of thinking caused this mess at penn state.
