I spoke with Coach Gavin about his new deal and what it means for Pitt going forward: https://pittsburgh.rivals.com/news/what-gavin-s-new-deal-means-for-pitt-wrestling
I believe just over 4,100seating for 3500, with success comes crowds maybe they see 3500 as the cap. What does the field house currently hold?
Yeah, the new arena will be smaller than Fitzgerald, but should be pretty much a nicer experience in every way.I believe just over 4,100
Unfortunately, like many of the Pitt teams, wrestling has never been a huge draw. I'd love to see better attendance but it's hard to imagine them attracting more than 3,500 on a regular basis. As Pittchagg said, they can always shift one to the Pete (they have previously) if they are expecting a big crowd.According an article posted by Jason Bryant Pitt only averaged 456.6 fans last year, so I think 3500 should be fair.
Iowa sets DI wrestling dual-meet attendance record during the 2021-2022 season
The University of Iowa’s fanbase, leaders in Division I attendance since 2007, set a new record for home average of 14,905, selling out the entire season at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.www.ncaa.com
456 seems very low considering we’re located in mecca of wrestling.
That would be great to see.I also think there is a chance for attendance to rise with so many local WPIAL guys coming in
I think that the attendance figure is low. Maybe they reported tickets sold and not actual attendance. I think students get in for free. I know seniors (citizens, not students) get in for free. Also, there are high school and youth wrestlers that can get in for free. Just eyeballing a crowd at Fitz, I would guess more than 400-500.👍👍👍👍
It’s a blessing and a curse. With this being a Mecca for Wrestling, many fans, especially with kids, are wrestling or practicing and preparing for events instead of going to matches. Same for going to football games. We would make a few each year, but when we had to choose to wrestle or go watch a match, participation won almost every time.According an article posted by Jason Bryant Pitt only averaged 456.6 fans last year, so I think 3500 should be fair.

How do senior citizens get in free? I am a senior and I have paid for tickets for year.I think that the attendance figure is low. Maybe they reported tickets sold and not actual attendance. I don’t mind paying for tickets. I buy 2 season tickets and give most of them away. I want to support the team.I don’t know how my buddy gets his tickets for free, but he told me he does. Call the ticket office and see what they say.
I tried asking last year if there was any kind of program where I could buy tickets and donate them to local schools. I didn't really get an answer.I don’t mind paying for tickets. I buy 2 season tickets and give most of them away. I want to support the team.
We used to buy bulk tickets for our association at a discount price, don’t think it was free but I have seen a lot of youth teams there recentlyI tried asking last year if there was any kind of program where I could buy tickets and donate them to local schools. I didn't really get an answer.
Someone on here said that local high school teams can go for free. Can anyone confirm that?
