What Gavin's new deal means for Pitt wrestling

seating for 3500, with success comes crowds maybe they see 3500 as the cap. What does the field house currently hold?

I believe just over 4,100
Yeah, the new arena will be smaller than Fitzgerald, but should be pretty much a nicer experience in every way.

And, to be honest, 3500 is probably fine for 95% of the matches that will be played in it. Nothing’s theoretically stopping Pitt from playing the rare volleyball or wrestling match in the Petersen Events Center against a Penn State or something where you’re expecting way more than 3500.

According an article posted by Jason Bryant Pitt only averaged 456.6 fans last year, so I think 3500 should be fair.

456 seems very low considering we’re located in mecca of wrestling.

Unfortunately, like many of the Pitt teams, wrestling has never been a huge draw. I'd love to see better attendance but it's hard to imagine them attracting more than 3,500 on a regular basis. As Pittchagg said, they can always shift one to the Pete (they have previously) if they are expecting a big crowd.

I think that the attendance figure is low. Maybe they reported tickets sold and not actual attendance. I think students get in for free. I know seniors (citizens, not students) get in for free. Also, there are high school and youth wrestlers that can get in for free. Just eyeballing a crowd at Fitz, I would guess more than 400-500.

It’s a blessing and a curse. With this being a Mecca for Wrestling, many fans, especially with kids, are wrestling or practicing and preparing for events instead of going to matches. Same for going to football games. We would make a few each year, but when we had to choose to wrestle or go watch a match, participation won almost every time.

How do senior citizens get in free? I am a senior and I have paid for tickets for year.

I don’t know how my buddy gets his tickets for free, but he told me he does. Call the ticket office and see what they say.

We don't win enough matches. Improve the w/l ratio and it will rise consistently.

I don’t mind paying for tickets. I buy 2 season tickets and give most of them away. I want to support the team.
I tried asking last year if there was any kind of program where I could buy tickets and donate them to local schools. I didn't really get an answer.
Someone on here said that local high school teams can go for free. Can anyone confirm that?

We used to buy bulk tickets for our association at a discount price, don’t think it was free but I have seen a lot of youth teams there recently
