What should we call the stadium Pitt plays in?

Would be funny to watch the nits' heads explode if it were UPMC Field. Most likely PNC or Heinz renewed
I logged on just to say UPMC Field. I’m sure that’ll be the odds-on favorite.

When you think about it, it’s not a bad idea by Heinz-Kraft not to renew it. Don’t have to pay for the rights anymore and people will still call it Heinz Field, though I will miss the ketchup bottles atop the scoreboard.

Instead of filling the scoreboard when in the red zone with ketchup, maybe it can be filled with pills or a needle :)

Speaking of which, Bayer (the pharmaceutical company) has developed a sort of Pittsburgh identity over the past couple of decades. (A company made famous by aspirin would have been more appropriate while Antonio Brown was still around, though.)

Just for fun, what corporate sponsor would be emblematic of Pitt or Steeler football?

SilverSport Field?

Screw naming rights. Name it after the city that lets them have the field. Pittsburgh Stadium, this way people can shorten it to Pitt Stadium and it will help with furthering branding Pitt to the nation.

The Steelers' national brand recognition power is strong, so it may not be limited to typical local-based corporations. Pepsi already has a long-standing advertising presence with Heinz Field and the University of Pittsburgh, so I would suspect they may be a player. If a powerhouse like Google wanted into the game, the Steelers could make sense, but such sponsorship isn't really the typical marketing approach for such companies.

Among the local companies, UPMC is the obvious one, along Alcoa. Dick's and AEO could have been prime candidate 10+ years ago, but the retail world's seeming demise and future uncertainty probably takes them out serious consideration.

Hunt's should grab it. Put up entirely new ketchup bottles. Then they can reacquire the ketchup contract at Kennywood as well. With an ad campaign emphasizing Heinz ain't "Pittsburgh" anymore.

Nobody outside of the region knows or cares about UPMC. Naming a stadium ads little value for them. Not worth the cost or public backlash that will go with a nonprofit spending that type of coin on naming rights.

Pitt buying the naming rights would be hysterical. Recruiting spin would suddenly be that the Steelers are tenants at our facility.

... plus it would be entertaining to see the on campus-stadium-or-bust contingent's heads explode seeing Pitt Stadium West.

this would be hysterical and actually make sense

Iron City Stadium

That actually has an awesome ring to it, despite not exactly a brand that I consume a lot.

I don’t want a name change. But if there is, the key will be to have a popular locally based company. It would brutal to be some corporate sponsor that you can’t relate to

Bayer is pulling out its corporate head quarters in Robinson, only keeping 1300 peripheral jobs in o’Hara Twp.., and Indianola. At its height they employed 2600 people in the region. How about the PPG Stadium, and both teams could be entering the Plate Glass zone, and the sound and visual of glass breaking when the

I like University of Pittsburgh Stadium. There is some precedent there as for-profit University of Phoenix bought the naming rights to the AZ Cardinals stadium

Pitt Stadium 2, & we can put up billboards that say “Back to the Future”. I’m certain this slogan is a surefire winner!!!!

When's the PNC Park deal up? With PNC having a much larger national footprint compared to the early 2000's you'd think they'd move the naming right to the football stadium.

Yeah, great idea. It can be the Monsanto/Bayer Cancer Field
