What were your thoughts on the new format for the Selection Show

Believe it or not, it was me who suggested this format change a few years ago. But they didn't take all of my advice.

I said what they should do is list all the teams that made the tournament first, not to split them up into automatic and at-large selections and spend 30 seconds giving a tidbit about every conference champ.

What they should do is list the teams 1-68.

Like, here's your 1 seeds.

Next, here's your 2 seeds.

Etc

When they get to the 11 or 12 seeds, they say these will be the First Four games and skip ahead to the other seeds.

Before going to commercial, list the last 8 teams for the last 4 spots in alphabetical order. Ask the panel who they think it should be, go to commercial, keep everyone in suspende and then list them 1 by 1 with reactions and all that. That's better drama.

Do it Japanese game show style. Have all the mascots up there..if a team doesn't get into the tournament, you punch them in the balls and have a zany sound effect and canned laughter. Maybe have Norm MacDonald host and tell like a 47 minute joke.

I thought it stunk to be honest

They shouldn't have spent 10 minutes on the conference champs. That was unnecessary. And they shouldn't have listed the at-large in alphabetical order. Should have done it by ranking for more drama

It was the same as the fake drama high school football kids deciding where they will sign to play football. It was dumb.

The alphabetical thing won’t happen again. Was universally panned and eliminated a lot of drama.

I thought it sucked big time. Show me the damn brackets and get it over with.

It was awful IMO. If you're say Alabama and you're on the bubble, 5 seconds into this you knew if you were in or not. I much prefer something like how they used to, the suspense is the best part and bubble teams had to watch nearly the entire show.

It was a big letdown. It's always been drama filled and most of that had to do with the format.

If they are going to announce the 68 teams before the brackets, I like your suggestion of going through each seed line. I could live with that, but hopefully they just go back to the old format. Once the bracket is announced, I don't care if they do 3 hours of analysis backwards and forwards, but just don't mess with the drama of the bracket reveal.

Audio, Guests, Format all underwhelming. Naming the at-large alphabetically was a waste - no context? Had to figure the no bid bubbles be either thinking too much or for the announcers to make the point. Anytime the announcer has to go backward and make a point in a broadcast, the point was probably lost on the viewers.

Disappointing for such a big stage event.

The only thing that might be worse than what they did is your idea.

By the time they got to announcing the last four spots there'd be about 200 people left watching.

Watching 2 boobs with pens writing on a giant piece of paper that someone with sloppy handwriting filled out looked like a 12 year old threw that together. And they couldn't even agree on who advanced, half the brackets were filled with question marks. It's almost as if they forgot about the show and threw it together at the last second. Oh crap! That's tonight????!!!!!! Barkley, get over here and grab a marker!

Believe it or not, it was me who suggested this format change ..Amazingly, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw that it sucked so badly. Small world, eh? Was like one of your crazy hypotheticals...."what if they take all the drama out of the selection and go with an asinine alphabetical listing of teams and dubbed the voices as if they are announcing Mothera was coming to save Tokyo?" Did like the Godzilla movie audio though.

Go back to the old reveal format, but add video screens in the corners with live feeds of the bubble teams shown throughout as the field dwindles. Maybe have a list of the projected top 10 bubble teams on the side and put a green check-mark next to their name as they are selected so all of the drama is focused on the shrinking bubble bids and it's easy to keep track.
