What WPIAL division does Austin Peay compete in?

Most posters on here demand 3 of Pitt’s non conf games to be against cupcakes, then criticize them for playing a cupcake

To be fair, most posters demand we play cupcakes because they aren’t good teams and are easy wins. Now some posters are trying to pretend AP is a good team. “They won 11 games last year.”

Austin Peay is the exact team people want us to schedule, precisely because that is what we will do to that team. Nobody needs to read anything more into it than that, one way or another.

Well isn't that the typical big10 model every year and the media doesn't say a darn thing to them.

Nobody is going to say anything to us either.
I’m not speaking to whether we should or shouldn’t have played AP. I think it was perfectly fine. It was a good warmup and I’m content leaving it at that.

I don’t know if I’ve seen a college game shortened like that for mercy. But I really hope nobody uses this game as a litmus test for success. Austin Peay is really really bad. I mean so bad we shortened a game to minimize potential scoring. This game could have easily been 80-0. I’m glad we got all players in, but that team was so bad on all levels and just nowhere near the athletes we have at any position.

I'm not mad that we beat the pee out of them. They're an FCS program that's only playing 3 games total this year. You could tell that their heart wasn't in it. But we did exactly what we should have: dominated in all 3 phases.

Would we have learned much more from beating Delaware 28-10? Doubt it. And this game had the beneficial side effect of getting lots of playing time to second stringers and true freshmen, kids that we'll need in a year where COVID and injuries will test everyone's depth.

They went deep into the D1AA playoffs last year, won 11 games, they are a good team at that level.

from a fan's perspective, an entertainment value, i hate these FCS games. but, and it pains me to say this, a warm up game like this is probably just what these players and coaches needed, especially this year..

i hate them but if you take out the entertainment value, or lack there of, it's better to whip up on a team than go into a game like Duke did and lose by 2+ TDs against a top 10 team. i cant imagine something like this happens again though, outside of a world wide virus pandemic screwing things up. it's not like we scheduled AP back in 2019. We were supposed to play at least a D1 team before all heck broke loose.

They can still look at the “tape” and learn or reinforce. In addition to a couple nice AP pass plays, their All Everything wideout beat Pitt’s secondary/LB on a seam that would have gone the distance if he’s as fast as reported — but was barely overthrown.

AP is in District 6, not in the WPIAL.

They are forecasted to finish just ahead of Clarkon-Limestone in the D6 rankings.

Please show some respect.

One of the funniest issues was special teams and the number of times we had two same jerseys on the play. Even walking off the field side by side.

Actually they aren’t. Last year was the first time they had ever qualified for the playoffs and was a total outlier given the history of the program. Historically they are really, really bad.

Yeah, they are last year, they where a ranked team, 11 wins, doesn't matter the previous history, recently a ranked team in that division, recently a good team at that level.

Literally none of those players are on this years team.

They played as hard as they could. No sin in an honest effort.
I wish that team, it’s young men and it’s coaches nothing but success going forward.
Let’s win with class.

Thanks for doing all that research So last years team had like 70 seniors? Or 80% of the team quit or transferred, "literally none". OK whatever.

But not a good team on that level this year? Did you see them Week 0 *this* year against Central Ark?

no mercy to anyone that bet on the game and went with Pitt...bets were cancelled by most operations...bullschitt thing (shortening the game) to do in this age of legal wagering...
I'm pretty sure it's not a good idea for coaches to make decisions based on wagering. Legal or not.

They were a good team at that level last year. Period. Since then they lost their head coach due to scandal, replaced him with an interim with no HC experience, lost all their top skill players, and lost to Central Arkansas last week.

before 2019 they had a couple of mediocre seasons, before that they were one of the worst teams in D1 with at least 3 winless seasons between 2010 and 2016.

So let's not pretend we handled some FCS powerhouse. We didn't. There were encouraging signs, but this was no test as to what kind of team Pitt is this year. it was a warm up, plain and simple. Pitt players face much tougher competition than Austin Peay every day in practice.

Yes I did, and it was a close game between two teams at the same level, they had the lead with 2 minutes left and lost on the last possession. They didn't look bad.

OK, I get it, lets do everything we can to piss on a successful 55-0 win, they had 11 wins last year, but this year they started 22 twelve year olds that where cut from their Pop Warner team.
nah, let's see it your way and tell ourselves we just beat the brakes off a FCS juggernaut.

I am not criticizing the win at all--I'm criticizing a poster who insists on overstating the quality of the opponent-pointless and predictable on this board after every win over every cupcake.

Come on now. A close game doesn’t mean either teamed looked good or played good. Rutgers v. Oregon State would be a close game. Doesn’t mean you’re watching good teams.

You all take this too seriously. Analyze it too deeply. Pitt crushed a team that was in the I-AA playoffs last year, I don't care about projecting anything going forward. It was FUN to see period.

Then why care at all how they looked this year or last?

it’s just as easy to say, “Pitt crushed” and move on.

You do seem to be caring to put it in some kind of opponent context.
