He has 4 Top 50s committed for the 2021 class and may end up with the #1 class. He's always been a strong recruiter but seems like he's turned it up a few notches

He could always recruit, and the quantity of NBA players he is producing is only helping his sales pitch.

The more they lose to Pitt, the better their program gets.
Let's also not forget the lack of NCAA actions with programs and coaches who are willing to deal in the margins, are boldly enabling these programs to do whatever it takes to get players.
It only took 5 posts. They’re not cheating.
Leonard Hamilton isn't new to this. He's had talented players going back to his days as HC at Miami.
Yea which makes me not want to believe he's cheating but you pretty much have to pay these kids.

Nike and adidas were dropping the bags for the most part. Nothing like Nike forcing kids to go to those powerhouses at Baylor and Florida state....
You think there’s a chance bunny Colvin is more relatable to kids than a lot of coaches? Then you factor in the weather, the NBA angle, recent success and the insane amount of hot slits running around there makes it an easy sell?

They’re doing it the way we want to! They got nice players for a long time, had some decent teams... then they got a few NBA guys because of relationships and now it’s cool to be there.
I don’t think FSU just started paying players out of nowhere.
FSU has a good staff as well. He has a nice blend of recruiters and a good bench coach.
Adidas (and maybe Nike but just alleged) got caught because of detailed financial arrangements. What hasn't been and likely never be caught are booster fan boys handing out 25K, 50K, 100K. Like when Cal and the Golden Panthers landed those guys in the mid 80s.

Probably. It just takes 1 or 2. Why are kids going to Baylor? Scott Drew really is that good of a recruiter? Or do they have a booster or 2 paying kids? Drew was voted by his peers as the dirtiest coach in the game.

The attitude and discussion on this forum about paying players is mostly a holdover from the days of criticizing Jamie Dixon as being a naïve rube who refused to get the job done. We could hire Bruce Pearl and our fans would still say Pitt is squeaky clean to a fault.
Pitt is only moderately successful in just about everything, and blaming cheating is easier than the introspection needed to finally admit our coaches and administrators are just flat out less effective than other schools.
We're not losing out on recruits because of cheating we're losing out because of Stallings.

Lol. Stallings gets blame when something goes wrong and Capel gets credit when we recruit well. When will that end? Year 15? @levance2 nailed it.
Well, we both agree that the Stallings era has absolutely 0, maybe less than 0 to do with current recruiting. Kids care about the current HC, getting paid (if that's offered), and getting to the NBA. How successful a former coach was 3 seasons ago is probably ranked abound 100 or so behind the color of carpeting in the bookstore.
Yeah, it doesn’t have anything to do with Stallings directly. That said, the guys who are being mentioned in this thread have been at their respective schools for a decade. We’re in year three; Leonard Hamilton was going to the Elite Eight with a team of NBA guys who he’d later be able to point to in recruiting, when we were going 0-18. That absolutely matters in recruiting.
Edit: That’s not suggesting Hamilton is cheating. I think he’s just a really good coach. But it took him a while to get things really rolling, and it took a pop into the tournament’s second weekend to really get to the next level.

Well this is what I said earlier in the thread. These guys are solid here. Everyone knows they’re not leaving (not that I think Capel is) but they have relationships built for a long time that they are using to sell unique angles. And just like Hamilton having a great staff, Drew has a great staff. Tang is long overdue For a head job and my guess is he gets Texas State this offseason should he want it.
As BBInd said only one coach out of Hamilton, Drew & JC was caught cheating. If JC was the Head Coach at WVU most here would say WVU is only getting players because JC cheats.
I like JC & want him to get it done at Pitt. But if he is going to get it done it will have to be with recruiting...and his staff could use an upgrade as well. He needs better recruiting assistants & player development. Hire the best ppl not close friends & Jason. JC has not shown at any of his 3 head coaching stops he is an X’s & O’s genius who can out coach you. The number one reason he was hired was because of his recruiting rep.
Texas Tech...I have brought them up often because I know a player on their team and that players guardian (My friend) has become close with Mark Adams their top assistant. My friend is real close with O’Toole as well (has known him over 20 years). O’Toole & JC really wanted the player when he was transferring. As did UConn. I’m told T. Tech had a no nonsense recruiting approach, seemed genuine and blew the other schools out of the water.
Pitt & UConn pretty much guaranteed him a starting spot. T Tech didn’t but they sold him on their player development and how he can reach his goals to be a pro. The kid is not an NBA player IMO (like his brother) and will get less PT at T. Tech than he would at Pitt or UConn. But that didn’t stop the Tech staff from being relentless in recruiting him.
My friend who has had tons of guys play D1 over the years and knows a million coaches said he has never been more impressed with a staff as he was with Beard & Texas Tech. Adams is his right hand man, runs the D & handles a lot of the X’S & O’s along with Beard.
Their other coaches (young hungry assistants) do lots of player development work but their 1st, 2nd & 3rd job is to Recruit, Recruit and Recruit. When they really want a player they are aggressive as hell. And it’s not like they had any tradition of winning before Beard. They can’t sell their dusty campus in the middle of nowhere TX etc.
The main reason I brought up T. Tech was because Beard knows how important it is to have a top staff. As far as JC...I believe he is putting too much pressure on himself due to his staff. If you had a top 100 list for assistant’s not one of our assistants would make the list. None have reps for being great recruiters or player development. JC needs a veteran assistant who is a real good X’s & O’s guy. And the rest of the assistants should be hungry young assistants who aggressively recruit.

There was a conversation on here last year, and a few posters felt the same way in regards to Beard. He is very impressive.
Everything I have heard or read about him is impressive. At Duke JC was a lead recruiter and Coach K (like most head coaches) would close. I feel JC is having to do too much work because he doesn’t have a top lead recruiter. Pitt FB is never going to have a top 10 class but they have improved and are getting better classes because of hires like Chris Beatty. If JC added a top recruiter it would take some pressure off him so he doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting.
Take Seton Hall for expl (not an easy school to sell as their campus sucks) they lost their best recruiter in Holloway and went out and got another assistant (can’t remember his name) who is known as a relentless recruiter. All of our assistants have been head coaches and probably won’t get head coaching jobs again (at least good jobs). I want an assistant who is dying to be a head coach...those guys know the fastest way to move up is recruiting and they recruit like their life depends on it. Can we say that about any of our assistants?
You have the kids right. But Joel & Jonathan have different guardians. I know Joel’s guardian and he knows Jonathan’s.
