Whats next at OH ?

wonder if Pitt’s working on any portal transfers now that Stafford is officially gone .

We probably need at least 2 new OHs for 2025 to complement Bayless and Coleman.

the other incoming frosh - Emch - is listed as an MB / OH . I wonder if OH is where she plays given the need. Fisher , in the press release announcing Emch and Coleman , says Emch can play all positions at the net.

I think they will be looking for at least 1 if not 2 OH in the summer transfer portal. If I recall, that is when they got Bre. They need to get someone who can really contribute too, not just a warm body. This is why they have Dan Fisher. This is why they extended him.

Now that there is a spot open, someone will be interested in it. Not sure they'll get two that are capable starters unless one is coming specifically as a backup with a chance to start in 2026.

I read that Coleman is on campus now.....so Fisher and his staff will get a good look at her right away. We missed with Flormarie Colon in the portal which is now closed. She is headed to Florida....and along with Kennedy Martin they will be very good. Best now to wait until the portal reopens in May.

The portal is closed for people to enter it, but anyone who was in the portal before it closed can still go somewhere new.

Yes....and I should have said that rather than assuming it is well known. I quit paying attention to who is still available after I learned Flormarie Colon signed with Florida. One other point....the portal is still open for graduate student transfers with a year of eligibility left. As you say.....for undergraduates not yet in the portal they will have to wait until May.

Some middles are forced there by need in HS. You can do more damage to another team with mostly average players if you pressure them with your block so HS coaches tend to give up a little offense to do that. Your average HS kid is undersized and generally inaccurate. Some of these middles are OH's that had to move over. And it's not impossible to pick up back row. Remember, Olivia didn't even play VB until she was a freshman and is now playing six rotations. I would also add that Fisher is okay giving up a little in the back to keep offensive pressure on the other team.

I have not gone back to watch the Louisville loss again.....but in both sets 2 and 3 which Pitt lost after having good leads evaporate.....I am wondering if Fisher overplayed his hand by betting on his offense to carry the day versus depending more on defense to win those 2 sets. It's just a notion I have....like I said I would need to re-watch the match to state that more strongly.

I might consider that other than one of Babcock's comments was that she didn't think Pitt was aggressive enough on offense in those two sets. And I would kind of agree with that. It's not easy to lie back and "play defense" in volleyball. You have to keep your foot on the gas.

The other big problem was that Louisville was just thriving on momentum. That's one of those things that just kills you. I think the biggest tell was that Fisher just looked helpless and that just isn't him. Nothing you can do sometimes.

None of them are on the roster yet. I don't know that any of them enrolled early but there isn't any indication that Coleman isn't still coming to Pitt.

I am curious about what this means. I can't imagine much that would truly keep someone out unless it is a silent cardiac issue. Does she have a history of any other significant issues?

I think it's speculation. There hasn't been any confirmation from anyone but it wouldn't be the first athlete that Pitt found some unknown and serious medical condition in an incoming athlete.

To say this off season has been a 'knee capping' of the program is beginning to look like an understatement. There is no way to sugar coat this. The only positive has been Fisher being signed through 2030.,....and Lord Have Mercy because he has his work cut out for him! Just wondering when this shit storm is going to end!

It could happen. At this point you have to assume that nothing is off the table. Heck, Torrey could be headed back here for 2026 the way things are anymore. I really can't get into the hand wringing over any of this. Everything is constantly in flux. It's up to Fisher to figure out and we get to just sit here and watch.

It's like Paco said in the other thread. I'm paraphrasing but Pitt fans don't have much of a stake in anything unless they pony up. Not just volleyball. Really any of the sports.
