Do games like this really help ? Colgate was overmatched at every position and there's no way not to lose your focus in a blowout like this. Sure it pads the stats ,but if this is what you need to do with your OOC schedule for RPI ( can't see how this helps ) something is wrong the system. I know someone will say they all do this ,but play teams that can give you a game . Please!

Cornell, not Colgate. I agree we shouldn't play many like this, but everyone plays a few like this.

It is good to have games like this to... work out the kinks.

ANO was able to play a full game for the first time and... that is big.

Chris Jones really got his scoring going and that is big also.

Slim was coming back from being sick and had a good, if not awesome, game. That is good because he is a RS freshman.

Wilson got more PT and that is significant for him as a freshman, and one who was injured a lot of time during training camp.

I think Jamel Artis has erased any concerns about him playing at SF. He has gotten into the groove there.

The problem isn't games like this... it is TOO MANY games like this. The ones after the Dukes game... and I think there are like 5 of them.... serve no purpose that I can see. Would be nice to have games against UConn and Temple in there.

The ACC is loaded this year. We had Gonzaga a Top 10 team scheduled and play a top 15 team in Purdue. We need some games like this to gel as a team.

Pitt shouldn't apologize for playing well. Cornell's not the worst team in the world, they've won a couple games this year. If Cornell gets hot and stays in the game, pitt gets criticized. Pitt wins by a ton, Pitt gets criticized. I get it, and pitt deserves some ire for its schedule, but I've seen many, many worse teams than Cornell at the Pete, and around college basketball.

The best part about today's game was that pitt legitimately played solid D around the perimeter. Georgia Tech beat this team by 30 some, but they gave up 80 points. I'm much happier to see pitt not give up 50.

Duke was losing at halftime to Yale tonight. Had they taken care of business like Pitt did tonight against one of Yale's conference mates, the Duke equivalent of the OP would be complaining about "do we need these games?"

Pitt would've beaten all but maybe 10-12 teams in America tonight.

Our schedule will be plenty strong enough, and there are good games with Purdue and Davidson coming up before the conference season. And we would've had one against Gonzaga.

Any criticism of our pre-season schedule this year is pretty much unwarranted.

I will add, Georgia tech was behind at home to Cornell early in the 2nd half before they recovered and won going away. We were never threatened. Sagarin had us favored as the #46 team by about 21 (including our home court advantage). We more than doubled that--it is a good thing and a further indication that we are better than we are currently ranked.

The point spread on this game from Vegas was 21. Pitt just blitzed this team from all over. Our offense is potent, but if James Robinson can start to make just a couple baskets per game and hit any of the wide open jumpers he missed tonight ( and I mean wide open), we would be absolutely lethal on offense. The 3 point firepower is there from other players, which is what we needed to spread the floor for Artis and Young to completely dominate by spreading the floor. We are one offensive player away, the point guard position.

Excellent rebuttal, counselor!

I just don't think beating up on an over matched team helps you gel as a team. Good competition does ,if they had a quality guard or big man to test the Pitt players that would have been one thing, but they had no one. Now I'll agree that Pitt took care of business last night very efficiently ,but an inter squad game would have been far more informative and entertaining.
Ps watched 30 /30 ESPN with Tyson /Hollyfield , Tyson looked unbeatable until he actually fought someone who could actually box. I'm not saying that Pitt didn't look good last night I just don't think this showed us much other than they are in a different class than a poor Ivy League team.
