I am very happy he committed to Pitt. But some of the Pitt fans in this thread are acting like we just got a commit from the #1 5-star DT in the country. Seems a little overboard to me.

Nobody in this thread is acting like Pitt got the #1 5* DT in the country. I see posters saying welcome to Pitt and that he is a good get for the Panthers.
Only a Pitt fan could take a congratulations thread for a local commit, build a negative strawman and then proceed to knock it down. Seems completely predicable to me.
Great to land him over the other schools that offered. Also great to read he wasnt seriously considering Pitt until Narduzzi and staff took over. This is what changed his mind. I think a few other kids minds have been changed as well.
Also like his enthusiasm at being an amateur recruiter for us. Him and Pine are a great pair in that regard.

I agree with DCAreaPanther in part that Pitt needs to step up Recruiting and I think Wheeler is a fine Recruit in every way for Pitt especially the type that can be developed as far as size and speed.
At this time, Harbaugh's Michigan, MSU's D'Antonio, Meyer's Ohio State, Penn State's Franklin and Maryland's Edsall are cleaning up on recruiting in the East and Midwest regarding Recruiting leaving many other Programs such BC, WVU, Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Pitt behind them.
Pitt has to overcome its disadvantage from all its Coaching Changes, Money, Support & Recruiting Resources, Lack Of Coach Pat & Staff Head Coaching Experience, Winning More and that is on Pitt to do and no one else.
This is not a Put Down of Pitt or Coach Pat & Staff but I see it as a Challenge and until Pitt shows it can meet that Challenge it is going to be a Tough Road to hoe against Ohio State, Michigan, MSU, Penn State, and Maryland. No question these Programs are ahead of Pitt right now with more experience Coaches and have the Resources to keep attracting Top Talent and I make no apologies since Chancellor Gallagher is on the right track as well when he made changes at Pitt Athletics!
Pitt's Coach Pat & Staff will have to recruit the same Horses of Talent on a higher level to keep up with these Powerful Resourceful Programs in the future and that is what he was hired to do? It is one thing to build a Program on 3 Star recruits but it easier to do it with 4 and 5 Star Recruits too, as D'Antonio is now showing.
Yet, it will depend far more on Pitt's Coaching Staff results this year and that is always tough when a New Coach & Staff takes over. Until then it is what it is but I have a Hunch Coach Pat & Staff will turn what Pitt has and is recruiting into a pretty good Teams capable of winning in the ACC and increasing Pitt's Program.
This is the good news and challenge for Pitt. What the bad news is for Franklin's Penn State is that Meyers, Harbaugh, D'Antonio, and Edsall are recruiting just as well if not better and have shown they can coach better right now. WVU Holgrosen has the same problems with KSU, Texas, OU, Baylor, and TCU!
Pitt plays Penn state the next four years and no question Pitt will have less talent than Penn State looking at the last 2 and this year in recruiting as DC points out fairly Pitt must do more and better!
Yet, I am still confident Coach Pat & Staff will make sure anyone plays against Pitt will come away knowing they played in a game and that includes Franklin that will have to do the same against Harbaugh, Edsall, Meyers and D'Antonuo every year?
What I am also saying is Franklin is recruiting great but his coaching better be too and so far he has not proved it against Meyers, Michigan, D'Antonio and Edsall and if he doesn't Penn State won't hesitate to replace him since they must win to maintain their Resources. Pitt on the other hand, can rebuild and establish a great program in the meantime, and I think that is exactly what Coach Pat is going to do!
Penn State Fans can laugh at Pitt Recruiting but Ohio State, MSU, Michigan and Maryland are doing the same at them and better these past months, and that is on them too!

I really am not worried about this. We recruited very well under Wannstedt, and I think one reason for that is people and families knew there would be roots and tenure there (turned out to be wrong). Wannstedt was a respected Pitt guy, and took a pay cut to come coach here. Most thought he would be coach for a dozen years. The coaching carousel has caused most all of our problems (and picking the wrong coaches). That is on smiley and his horrendous handling of the head coach position. I am confident we now have the right guy, staff, and facilities to compete with ANY team. We are already seeing some progress, and more will surely come with good play this upcoming year.
Now... the marketing side of things... we NEED better Pitt beat writers. This has been killing us! You just cant find that kind of negativity on other campuses. Just doesnt happen. Now, I shouldnt just say the writers, it could be their bosses... but whoever it is, Pitt needs to make it stop. Pay for an intern reporter to work for the PG and Trib? Donate ad money... I mean, pretty obvious penn state does, you always see their ads... and voila... they have positive stories all the time. Be smart.. pony up for good coverage

True, starts at the top with the wonderful Jerry Micco and his agenda of pimping out PSU at all costs. Take a look at the cover photo of his PSU beat writer (audrey) twitter page....definition of fan girl and not objective journalist.
That's true, I think most of us here just write it off as unprofessionalism but over many years it affects young readers.
The good news is that young newspaper readers don't exist.
