Where are the Ships gonna come from?

A lot of people on the board have brought up a good point about having 13 graduating players but a 2020 class that will be 5 to 7 ships bigger than that. I looked at the Scholarship Board and wondered where the attrition would come from. It will come, it always does, but it’s not as obvious as in past years. That is a good thing, it actually happens when the same coach stays more than three years. So here is what I came up with.

Possible early NFL entries: I think this one is a long shot, but if Weaver has a big 2019, he could get the draft grade to leave. A lot of people think Pinnock could be another. He has a great skill set and he looked really good late last year. I saw him at Wake and he was impressive on his abilities up close IMO. He could possibly leave too with the right grade, but I don’t see it at the moment, but a lot can change.

Some OL will most likely move on: Pitt has 4 OTs in the redshirt sophomore class (Drake, Houy, Van Lynn, and Warren) one of them could leave after the season if two of those guys become clear cut starters. I think it would be more likely that one could leave after 2020 as a grad transfer. Drexel is a backup center that is battling with Kradel for the job after Morrisey graduates in two years. If Kradel passes him, he may decide to move on. I think this would be more of a possibility after 2020 and him leaving as a grad transfer. The most likely is Wheeler. Unless he sees some legitimate run at guard this fall, he would be behind Ford and Hargrove going into his senior year. It’s almost always happens that one OL leaves for whatever reason.

A linebacker or two moves on: Albert Tucker and Kyle Nunn, people forget they are in the program. Only redshirt sophomores, but if neither are near the field as a reserve this year, then I would expect on of them to leave. I think Campbell will stick at OLB, but weirder things have happened.

Garner or Coleman leaves: This one is a reach, but let’s say Robinson does transfer in. Coleman and Garner would go into 2020 as redshirt senior reserves. One may want a year to start at a lower level, possibly.

A receiver leaves: One always does, they always do.

None of it is clear cut and will be a little more interesting to see how it plays out. It’s definitely better than in years past.
