Where does DJ rank among Pitt's best O-linemen of all-time?

not sure on your question, but he could get himself into the late first round if he kicks ass at the combine...higher the draft picks, the easier it will be for narduzzi to recruit

No idea, especially since that's a difficult position to compare.

Good to see a highly rated lineman live up to his billing.
A lot of ours haven't over the years.

Can you provide examples of highly rated OL at PITT who weren't productive? Serious question.
The two that stand out the most were Nix and Jacobson.
Which, they were productive, but I don't think they lived up to their billing.
There have been a ton of three stars that have come through, and almost all flopped, for various reasons.

Oddly, our most productive o linemen have been converted d linemen, and sleepers.
Jucos have done well too.

-He has a mountain to climb considering Pitt's Oline talent completely smokes every other team in the country

-Ruben Brown- 9 Pro Bowls, Hall of Fame
-Mark Stepnoski- 5 Pro Bowls, Hall of Fame
-Bill Fralic, Russ Grimm, Jeff Christy- 12 Pro Bowls Combined, , Hall of Fame Players, All decade Players
-Jimbo Covert- 2 Pro Bowls, Offensive lineman of the year, and Hall of Fame
-Mark May and Fred Hoaglin- 2 Pro Bowls Combined, Hall of Fame
-Robert Peck, Herb Stein, Ave Daniel- All College Hall of Fame Players

-There are 36 more 1st Team All Americans alone off the offensive line too.

-Like I said, the Line talent blows the doors off all other colleges just like Pitts all time team.

Good examples. Jacobson was so hit or miss during his time at PITT. He certainly didn't lack the athleticism, but seemed to lack the drive at times. Nix seemed to have the opposite issue. Three stars, while solid recruits, are not what I would consider highly rated.

Absolutely right on the converted players. DL generally have very quick feet and understand the importance of leverage, which translates very well to the OL.

Pitt gave up 9 sacks all year right? And I believe dj none?? And our running back set a record for tds. It's too soon to put him along HOFers but he is close no doubt

Plus, he was a 5 star recruit

Too tough to say especially right now. A) it is tough to compare linemen B) other than Fralic and May, while we knew the others were damn great, it was their NFL careers that truly cemented them as Pitt Legends. So we will not know for a few years for DJ.

Tom ricketts....the friendly tackle.....

First round bust....only surpassed by huey Richardson in first round steeler misses .....

Still one if the greatest nicknames of all time

-Pitt has 7 offensive lineman in the college football hall of fame alone.

Someone needs to put together a top 5 OL, all time pitt players. it would be sick, we could go first second and third team OL and it would be sick. Some of our OLs in the 80's were ridiculous.

Again.. that isnt even remotely true. We have had something like 30 some consensus All Americans at offensive line alone.

I do agree that the legend grows quite alot more in the pros. But Russ Grimm, Jimbo Covert, Mark Stepnoski, Reuben Freaking Brown... there are so many that were complete stand out all pros.

-We could have a combined 27 Pro Bowls across the starting line and the whole line would be in the Hall of Fame, College, Pro, or both.

Gilbert was a great OL. Wow..

I'm not sure it's fair to compare DJ in the context of Pro accomplishments at this point. He has to go to the league and prove himself.

That said, if he stays healthy, he'll be a pro-bowler someday. He really is a good interior lineman. He has some work to do on his pass blocking but it's all pretty minor. Really hope he finds his way to a guy like LeCharles Bentley to polish his skills.

I disagree on Jacobson. Nix was the better player but Jacobson had a good college career. I just remember he couldn't stay healthy. I would take a player just like him for this year's line. I definitely would not consider his career a bust or anything like that.

I often wonder what happens to these guys when they leave? I have heard that Jacobson slimmed down and is living in Southern California now but I'm not sure if that's true or not?
