Who are the real Pitt Fans? I really want to know?

Maybe the mods need to vet people for membership? I could conveniently pull my 1990s Era Pitt Student ID out of my wallet and fax a copy for instance for a quick verification.

Maybe if the mods did it, we wouldn't have a bunch of posters running around like George Zimmerman, playing community watch police, making false accusations about who is or who isn't a Pitt fan with no proof.

It is funny to some extent, being accused of going "deep cover" for a decade, making several thousand posts on a message board to try to trick people into thinking you're a Pitt fan, to "control the narrative" in favor of Penn State and JoePa! Wow, just wow! Is what I'd say to anyone that could possibly believe that!

But please, take your tin foil hats off and get real, it's also gets really repetitive and irritating hearing these jerkoffs make repeated accusations! Then you ask them to back it up? link to a few posts that prove that someone is a "Nitter" or anti-Pitt, and since they can't, they just say, "well I just can tell, you're not fooling anyone"?

I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of these tin foil hat people.
I'M SPARTACUS!!!

This sounds like a bunch of grade school kids arguing back and forth. There are casual fans who wear PITT gear some of the time and watch some of the games. There are avid fans who wear PITT gear all the time, attend all the games and are proud of the University. There are the in betweeners who buy tickets but don't use all of them, sometimes wear PITT gear and complain a lot.

If PITT plays ND 20 more times in your lifetime, you are either in your 30's or you plan on living till you are 120. Believe me after kids things there are grandkids things.

"pittguy81, post: 453872, member: 5984"]#1 Do you support an on campus stadium in Oakland?

No, but Pederson should have followed by being fired too.

#4 Can you name the Killer B's?
No

#5 Do you own any Dinocat gear?
No burned it!, Strangers thought it was promoting Pit Bull Fighting because the Cat looked like Pitt Bull?

#6 What was Johnny Majors favorite bourbon to drink prior to a recruiting visit? (Majors II)
Jim Beam But Afterward Jackie Daniels!

#7 Did Ironhead hit the paperboy with his left or right crutch?
Don't Know!

#8 Have you or your cohort ever used a pulley to hoist a keg into Pitt Stadium?
No, But Marino used to make a $5 buck a Leg Kickback buying Beer for the Fraternities and other Parties. 250 Kegs a weekend.

#9 What were the cumulative lengths of Wes Posvar and Cas Myslinski eyebrows?
Bushy very Bushy but Great Vision in rebuilding Pitt Football most wins in the nation from 1976 to 1982!!!
#10 Where would you expect to find Walt Harris with a blond girl half his age?
Next to him, his wife!

Bonus question:
Joe Paterno said he refused to leave the world of college football to which 2 head coaches?

When will they get rid of that dinocat logo? That's the only thing I really have left to bitch about...reminds me of Steve too much.

Funny you say that. It's really hard to get out of Pittsburgh when you have far to walk. Lots of resting stops.

Let's be honest, realistically the priority list for most of us is:

Of course, in an effort of complete transparency, I sometimes wedge "Copious Amounts Of Alcohol" unexpectedly in between 1 and 2. Sometimes those parking lots/bars are like a vortex.

Here's the real test
1. Who won the infamous Delta Phi vs PIKA "Blood Bath" football game on the lawn in 78?
2. Who smuggled the most kegs into Pitt Stadium on their Homecoming Float?
3. How high was the largest human pyramid to be built on game day? Bonus (Who dove into it and crushed them all?)
4. What floors could you party with the Football Team at Webster Hall and who had the nicest car on the Team?
5. Where was the best place to "do lines" in Peters or the Keg?

If you can answer these you are a true survivor of the "Glory Days " of Pitt Football.
Hail To Pitt !!!!!!!

We need to come up with a list, a little check off list, to decipher real fandom vs. fakers. Maybe 10 questions and if you answer yes to 7 or more, you are a real fan.. Any thoughts on those questions?
This is very "Diner"-esque. Either you pass or sorry, not allowed to post anymore. Intriguing.

Wrong... correct answer... "Pitt is Family"

A Pitt fan that is a stranger is just a family member you havent met yet.

I've never met you, but I have always wondered something. Are you loaded because you are wealthy, drunk, or are you packing heat? After watching Goodfellas, any Italian is my friend!

How bout this.. If you've ever done cocaine with marino, you get a lifetime badge of fandom.. Any one??

This hits the nail on the head. This is what I started the thread to get to. There are some people here who try to gauge what level of commitment makes a "Pitt Fan", and also some try to determine "TRUE Pitt Fan" based on opinions about one topic or another. All of which is BS.

all too easy troll....How bout can you name one of the two kids Ironhead smacked with his mighty (Thor-like actually) crutch ( named "Bessie" I believe)?....

Is it possible for somebody to be a "real" fan if they just root for the team and university as a collective whole as opposed to idolizing individuals and recalling the name of a former players medical equipment?

I'm not a Pitt fan by any means, but in general, I am against idolizing individuals. I refuse to buy myself or my kids apparel representing an individual player.

I am a Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and Penn State fan....I root for the individuals who play for those teams to perform well but I do not seek autographs or buy their jerseys.

This is what I started the thread to get to.

You started this thread because you wanted to get some validation that you are a Pitt fan, even though you are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

You are a casual fan. Nothing more. Nothing less. And casual fans are just fine. But colleges need a lot of fans who are a lot more than just casual fans to succeed. As anyone who pays attention to college sports knows. Colleges need fans who buy tickets. Colleges need fans who go to the games, more than just once in a while when they can get some free tickets from a friend. Colleges need fans who donate money, some of them who donate a lot of money. You may not like that that is the current reality in college sports, but it is. You demand excellence on the field from Pitt, to the point that you think that Pitt should be cheating to achieve the results that you want, but you refuse to do anything, literally anything, that would help Pitt achieve what you demand from them. That's why you are a hypocrite. You demand from others what you aren't willing to help achieve on your own.

I mean good god, you are someone who almost never actually goes to the games who has bitched over and over and over again about the fans who do go leaving before the game is over. And you don't get how absolutely ridiculous that makes you sound.

And again, I'll do as I please, message boards are nothing more than RECREATION or ENTERTAINMENT, where people just go to CASUALLY have a discussion TO PASS THE TIME talking about a subject they are interested in. Nobody has to PAY A TOLL to come on here and say anything they please, you don't have to EARN THE RIGHT, or HELP THE CAUSE in any way to be a participant here, all you need to do is register a USER NAME and you are free to join the fun. Nobody looks ridiculous, it's not a serious endeavor there are no consequences good or bad, it's just for fun, like I said, RECREATION.

Who said that you can't have an opinion? Who said anyone needed to "earn the right" to post here? Who said this was anything other than entertainment? You keep setting up these strawmen in an attempt to get some sort of validation of your "fanhood". You're like the little kid waiting for a pat on the head and a cookie from his mom.

If you don't like "ridiculous", how about "pathetic"? It works just as well.

To be on the lair and to be considered a real Pitt fan. You should have to make your social security number public.

Well, if anyone is an expert on idolatry, it's a head-in-the-sand Penn State fan. Thanks for the lesson, Chief.

A fan is short for Fanatic.

I donate to the university and buy tickets, but I will put my Children's games over Pitt games. I do not think that last point makes me less of a fan than someone who goes to all the games. Nor does it make me a better fan than someone who goes to games but does not donate. Or etc etc.

I don't think why we need to have a pissing contest on who is a True FAN. I don't need that validated. You are all entitled to your opinions. I think if you care about the university and sports teams, support them in some way, I believe you are a "True" Fan.

I agree with you, I'm just tired of coming here and being told I'm really an undercover Nitter or don't have the right to an opinion because I don't donate enough, or attend enough games. Basically, I got sick of the constant BS and had to say something.
