Who do you think is the greatest all around high school athlete of all time in Western Pa ?

Especially in the state finals against the highest seeded team

I mean she was an Olympian and going against maybe like a D3 sprinter? Is it that hard to believe? Its like saying you cant believe LeBron game back from an 18-0 deficit to beat a D3 hopper in a game of 1 on 1 to 20

Have you ever had your brain checked out by a specialist?

That was in the mid 40s, the 1940s. It’s a wonderful life was filmed when he was in high school. Judy garland was still jail bait

Not sure many people were alive back then.

Come on, there were a lot of people alive back then.

Of course most of them aren't still alive, and very few of those who were are here posting on the Lair.

You can have the rest. I'll take Lauryn Williams from Rochester. Because none of those previously mentioned can top this: 👇 👇👇

I don't know how many times I've watched that clip, but every time I do I am amazed that she comes from that far back. She (or really, her teammate) isn't even in the picture when the teams that are leading are making their last exchanges.

Pryor played basketball at a 2A school, though, correct? At that low a level, his skills are magnified. Not saying that he wasn't a great athlete, he was, but you have to take the competition level into account.

For recent times, I'd probably go with Lavar.
He played high level AAU ball and had D1 offers.

Terrell Pryor. No one else was close to having the natural God given talent. With a better head on his shoulders and a stronger work ethic he could have been an all-pro in football or hoops.

He probably falls a little short of Pryor on the hoops side but Major Harris was a helluva athlete too. Wouldn’t have been high D1 but was a D1 hooper as well. And he didn’t play in high school but word was back in the day he was a very good baseball player as well.

I will hold, and then explain,my choice later so as to not influence anyone.
I'll go with Major Harris...I only say this because I saw him absolutely take over a piaa playoff basketball (his secondary sport and not the stud on that Brashear team) game against an absolutely loaded Altoona team that had two future NBA players on it...

It’s Pryor for me. Just the smoothest athlete I can ever recall seeing.

Not WPIAL, but LeSean McCoy as a sophomore and junior was incredible to watch.

That’s another reason why his hoops skills may have been overlooked a bit. That team was very good. They had a team that didn’t necessarily rely on 1 or 2 guys game in and game out. I also think a lot of people forget Darelle Porter was on that team.

They lost in the finals to Carlisle who had Jeff Lebo and Billy Owens.

Kurt angle? Not sure if he played any other sports than wrastling.

Was John Woodruff good in high school?

Wow! What was your reaction when you saw that incredible performance, live and in person?

My wife and I were there as well, sitting right at the finish line. My youngest daughter was a freshman who qualified in both hurdle races and high jump. Lauren's mom was sitting a row or two in front of us. Her reaction was priceless she was so excited I thought she might have a heart attack. My wife turned to me after she ran that girl down and said "She's going to the Olympics"....which I scoffed at, at the time

Did any of the hall of fame QBs play multiple sports? Jim Kelly? Joe Namath? Montana? Marino?

Are you from Washington? I would be curious if folks from there think he was a more outstanding athlete than Brian Davis.
I’m not…but competed against him a few times. It helped that he was going against AA competition. I’d imagine most would say Brian Davis was a better athlete because he seemed to be crazy good for his time. But Gatten quietly put together a very nice high school resume. (That said he is a Nitter haha)

Going against the grain in the thread for qualifications after high school ...
Leon Hart . Turtle Crick .
Aside from his obvious college and Pro accolades he lettered in football , baseball , and basketball in high school ....
