Who dressed Paul Chryst for this bowl game...

Anyone have that pic of him dressed in an ugly earth tones suit like some midwestern dad at a nephew's 1st Communion sitting next to AD Douchebag rocking his veneers, gold watch and french cuffs? The look on Chryst's face kills me. Nice funny guy...happy for his early success.

I never understood the animosity towards PC. Guy comes in here mandated to stabilize the program....could have easily left after year one and stayed. Ran off bums like Shell.....established an identity for Pitt and recruited accordingly.

Was CLEARLY handcuffed by the administration...trying to clean up a program full of bad actors....so instead of going after a 4 star with a questionable past....he brings in a 2 star Wirginis from Fox Chapel (as an example). Lobbied in vain to keep Chapman in school...but his bosses said no way.

Along the way, was able to keep some pretty good talent (Boyd, Bookser,) identify some diamonds in the rough in Connor and O'Neill.....

Leaves for his dream job....a job that was certainly a step up from Pitt.

WITHOUT QUESTION.......the guy had weaknesses. I would remind Panther nation of who his boss was....and who out there other than a highly regarded assistant would ever consider working for Pederson in what was a dumpster fire program at the time.

It seems like I am in the minority here....but I view Chryst as the best Pitt could get given the circumstances. I hold no animosity towards him whatsoever...and quite frankly, given the DBags in his league ( James from State College, Urban and Harbaugh).....I hope he does very well at Wisky. He is a hell of a lot easier to root for than the above named assholes.

Paul did a solid job there. Inherited a top 25 roster and had his DC handpicked for him by an AD who actually knows what he's doing.

My biggest beef with PC is that when Pitt hired him, he stayed with Wisconsin until after the bowl game. When Wisconsin hired him back, he did not give Pitt the same respect.

So he can s*ck it.

Speaking for myself, no animosity toward PC, and I certainly don;t think he;s the slack-jawed simpleton that he appears to be standing on that sideline. I just don;t believe in him as a head coach. He had a nice year with a 38 game starter at QB, someone else's players, and most importantly for him, Dave Aranda running his D. You may recall that our hero didn't want to retain Aranda, he wanted to bring in Card House, but BA made that decision for him. Aranda will likely soon be off to the bigger time and the Wisky players will turn over. I don't think PC has the head coach genetics--but in a couple of years, I think we'll see whether I'm right or not.

Interestingly, PC being the offensive guru that he;s supposed to be, Wisky went from 21st in total offense and 27th in scoring offense to 83rd in total and 81st in scoring. They went from 3rd in rushing offense to 93rd. Yes, they had Melvin Gordon last year and they had some O line issues this season, but going from 320 rushing YPG to 149 YPG is just an enormous dropoff. If not for Aranda's defense, they would have been lucky to go .500. Remember--if PC had his way, Aranda wouldn't even be there--House would.

In other words, I'm saying PC was handed a good team, a good program, with all the pieces in place, had a favorable conference schedule where he didn't have to play MSU, OSU or Michigan, and did OK with it all his first year. Frankly I think a trained monkey would have done about the same. Next year they break in a new QB for the first time in 3 years. The O line should be better. Aranda may be off to greener pastures, possibly even USC, in the next month or two. We'll see what happens.

And I mean, honestly, what coach would wear this for any game, let alone a bowl game. It looked like he may have even had that thing tucked into his khakis for chrissakes.

That's a fair beef, but a small one nonetheless.
Personally I like the guy. Looks like he walked into plenty of talent there too. Wish him the best.

He bailed on Pitt when the going got tough. He did nothing to elevate the program. He is Larry Coker, inheriting some good things this year and having success with it. Let us see in a few years. And I don't wish him well

Huh? He left for his big opportunity, his be-all, end-all job, that's very different. He also established a foundation for the next guy to work with at Pitt, so he elevated us in that sense if not in W-L. That said, I was not sorry to see him go.

Curious to see how he does 3 years from now. That will truly be the test. As others have mentioned, he inherited everything this season.

This should have been his be-all, end-all job. Why even hire someone that is such a flight risk? And he realized that another 6-6 season and his butt was most likely on the street. So he took the easy way out. Never has someone been rewarded so greatly for accomplishing so little.

Well nobody expected Anderson to bail so quick, including BA himself.

Frankly, everyone since Wannstedt has been a flight risk, and the reason he wasn't one is nobody else was interested in hiring him away, which they could have done cheaply. For a while we have been a stepping-stone level job. We can all hope Doozi is the guy who intends to stay here a while, and I think the new AD and admin give us much better odds at making that happen, but who the hell knows? Upward mobility is the very nature of the business.

I also don't think PC was worried about getting fired. I think he would have done pretty well at Pitt this past year, the pieces were in place and the continuity was there. Again though, I am not a PC believer, and I think we upgraded--but it will take some time and some continuity of staff to see it materialize.

Why should Pitt have been is be-all, end-all job? Isn't he from Wisconsin and a Badger alum? Pitt hired him from Wisky. Why wouldn't he want the opportunity to coach at Wisconsin?

Pitt has been a stepping stone job pretty much since Jock Sutherland left. There are very few college jobs that aren't stepping stones at this point. We don't need a guy who is going to stay here 30 years, we need a guy who is going to improve the program and if/when he does leave he leaves us in a better (hopefully much better) place than when he got here. Johnny Majors was only at Pitt for four season before leaving for his dream job. Wouldn't we all take a four year stretch like that now? Jackie Sherrill was only here for five years before he left for a giant pile of cash (and to escape an idiot boss). Wouldn't we all take a five year stretch like that now?

Would it be nice to have a great coach that stays here for decades and is extremely successful? Of course. But it's also an unreasonable expectation.

Excellent post. He was put in a very difficult situation with little support from the administration. He wasn't a great recruiter but his budget was probably lacking too. Obviously we're in a much better position now, but I wish him well.

He never made any fashion statements while at Pitt. Why does his outfit not surprise me?

I get that, but you can't build much in 3 -4 years. . Again, see MSU. They are what they are because they've retained an excellent HC for 9 years and have had minimal staff turnover. That should be attainable here as well.

are u surprised he only won 10 games this year?
No--I just don't think he deserves a ton of credit for it, for the numerous reasons I stated in posts above. We'll see how it shakes out in the next couple of years. If they can hang onto Aranda, that will make a big difference, but most feel he'll be movin' on up soon. Brand new QB next year as well.

General consensus seems about right - no ill will toward Chryst from me, but I'm happier with Narduzzi.
