Everyone wants Stallings gone but for who ? Really who would want to come to this mess Jamie started and stallings continued ! Only way Stallings goes if they have a coach in waiting. and I don't think they have that move ready.

1. New coach is at a lower level program who wants to coach in a big time league
2. Recognizes potential in enough players on current roster and incoming players
3. Can drag a missing piece or two with him.

RI has a 4-star PF verbal commit who would fill a need if he follows the coach here. Does Pitt have charges left in the magic wand? We shall see....

Anybody if the price is right.

Who would want to come? How about any decent coach who would love the exposure to the ACC and be in a P5 conference and a great metropolitan area like Pittsburgh. Why do all you folks sell this school, city, area so short all the time? Serious inferiority complex.

We tried a lot of good coaches and they weren't interested last time. Also, i love Pitt not a troll ! Do you really think Pitt is going to buy out Stallings and pay top money for a coach ? I just don't see it.

Comes down to $$$$$. Anybody, literally anybody would take any job if the price was right. If RMU offered Coach K $30 million per year, he'd be there.

Pitt is going to have to overpay because its a bad roster and a tough conference but they can have anybody that they are willing to pay for. Obviously there is only so much Pitt is willing to give certain coaches so it comes down to their perceived cost/benefit. Would it be better to pay Hurley $4 million per year or Earl Grant $1.2 million? That's what it comes down to

I agree. People keep throwing out this crap and selling Pitt short. Its one of the best jobs in one of the best conferences, if not the best, in the country. We haven't had any success at all with Stallings, but a decent to excellent coach would love to come here and turn this around. In college basketball, things can be turned around a lot more quickly than in football. Howland and Dixon did it in a few short years when they were hired. If we get the right coach, it can be done and we'll be near the levels where we were only a few short years ago.

The caveat is getting the right coach and the right staff to support that coach. That's where I have little confidence that the Pitt administration knows what to do and where to look.

It appears Pitt (Barnes) was offering <$2M for the position, you get what you pay for.

To SMF's point, I think we're all (im)patiently waiting to see how serious we are this time.

When Howland left Pitt they had to hire an untested assistant
( thankfully ) because they couldn’t attract anyone they wanted . Pitt was a plum job then !
Expecting them to attract a top level guy to take over this mess is going to cost them far more money than they’re willing to pay . Your going to be disappointed if your expecting a great hire .

Yeah who in their right mind would want one of 65 jobs in the entire country for coaching a Power Five basketball team. That's like asking who would want a job as Vice President of a Company. Cannot believe how ridiculous people are.

Nobody wanted the Tennessee job and that’s why they ended up reaching for Schiano and then for literally anyone that would take it.

And that’s an SEC football head coaching job with a rabid fanbase and a hell of a lot more tradition and history of success than Pitt basketball.

That's football! What does that have to do with basketball?

Did you ever think that last time Coaches saw a school that had a new AD that was basically pushing out a Coach who had been Coach of the year and had multiple #1 seeds. And they said, we will wait. Barnes sucks and maybe they just didn't need to have him as their boss. Now you have a new AD and you are going to follow a Coach who is supported by nobody young or old. Good chance to look good isn't it?

Quote from respected national college basketball writer Pat Forde:

"Pittsburgh (2). He’s not even completed two seasons, but the Kevin Stallings Era is an unmitigated disaster. The Panthers are 8-20, 0-15 in the ACC, and 13 of those league losses are by a dozen points or more. If they don’t win at home Wednesday against Wake Forest, they will very likely go 0-18. Stallings did not inherit a flush situation, but it has gotten much, much worse on his watch. Pitt should bite the financial bullet, admit the mistake and move on.

How good is the job: Still a good one. ACC membership has its privileges, in terms of revenue and exposure and the annual chance for more than half the league to earn an NCAA bid. Yes, it’s also a very difficult league in which to win big, but Jamie Dixon was competitive for three seasons before evacuating. Pitt certainly can find an upgrade from Stallings."

Also this from Forde about the "search" that Scott Barnes and his buddies ran. Doesn't sound like Barnes tried "a lot of good coaches and they weren't interested last time".

"… AND THE WRONG HIRE AT THE WRONG TIME

Turns out, replacing a guy who never had a losing season and went to 11 NCAA tournaments in 13 seasons wouldn’t be all that easy. Especially if you hire the absolutely wrong guy.

That’s what athletic director Scott Barnes (30) did when he tabbed Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings (31). This arrangement very likely was created by the buddy-buddy search firm business: Barnes hired College Sports Associates, run by his former boss at Washington, Todd Turner, who also happened to be Stallings’ former boss at Vandy. It was all very convenient, except for the inconvenient truth that Stallings was a very bad fit for the Pitt job. Nine months later, Barnes left Pitt for Oregon State. In his wake, the Stallings Era has been a complete debacle.

Pitt’s long run of winning records ended last year, when the Panthers went 16-17. This year, with a threadbare roster, has been much worse — Pitt is 8-18 overall and 0-13 in the ACC. The last three losses have been by 31 (at North Carolina), 24 (at Clemson), and 34 (home against a Louisville team playing without its leading scorer). Stallings easily could be two-and-through at Pitt."

Because everyone they were going after got matching offers. Coaches aren't staying at NC State and Purdue for a $1 million per year discount
