Who would you like to see inducted into the inaugural Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame?

The old timers should be first--Pop Warner, Jock Sutherland, Doc Carlson, etc.
I was gonna say the same. Pop and Jock need in there asap. obviously we have our names of recent guys.

Do we start the debate of allowing players like fitz, shady, who were here only two years now or save that for another thread?

Why not 2 categories, like MLB, etc. 5 from the 1900-1960 era, 5 from 1961-present. (I just guessed at the dates). Few younger folks know about Pop Warner or John Woodruff...but they know Marino, Aaron Donald and Rozelle Nix! ;)

They need to do it both by sport and by era. There once was an athletics hall of fame back in the 1910s and maybe 20s. All of fthose people should be examined. To do it right, you need to research back to 1869, which is when Pitt started intercollegiate athletics with baseball.

But who does the selection? Most of the Dour Scot's players are gone. I think it's a great idea, but a hand-picked selection group would require a lot of work....and limit the names each year to make it a recurring event. Sell voting rights ($25) to pay for it. Or limit it to PC members. I think it would be a lot of fun. Have this site involved, Peak isn't busy these days, and have a section devoted to votes from the lunatic fringe!! ;)

They have a selection committee set up already and it is a fairly good one. They have era representatives assigned. Alex Kramer is pre-1960 rep and that is an excellent pick but football centric and covers too large of an era for one person. They maybe should have gotten Jim O'Brien and Sam Sciullo involved. They also should have representative dedicated to each sport. PittLaw is an interesting choice.

Kingdom stuck Olympic Gold Twice. That trumps a drawer full of NCAA and Pan-Am stuff

It is a Pitt Hall-of-Fame. No one was a more decorated Pitt athlete, ever, and it is not even close.

That said, if they're both not first class inductees, then the Pitt Hall is a fraud.

Billy Knight
Brian Generalovich
Marty Schottenheimer
Paul Martha
Dan Marino
Ernie Borghetti
Marshall Goldberg
Hugh Green
Ricky Jackson
Don Hennon
This list doesn’t include TD
It must be a joke.....

yes, and most probably had to google her....Paco correct, two golds (not to mention iaaf world {Earth} athlete of the year in 1989) > most decorated (debatable) and no Olympic golds...

Based on what one accomplished at Pitt, as a college athlete representing the university while wearing a Pitt uniform, and bringing actual championships, honors, and records to the University, it isn’t at all debatable. There is no record of the University of Pittsburgh ever having participated in the Olympic games.

A general population’s ignorance of a person’s accomplishments shouldn't be at all relevant for induction. In fact, showcasing such accomplishments is a major utility of even having a Pitt hall.
