Why did Narduzzi coach so damn timidly on the road against a top team?

I haven't posted in awhile mainly because I have tried to take a different approach this season in watching and rooting for Pitt. I made a commitment to myself not to post here until after the Penn State game mainly so I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Well after watching us have a very good shot to upset PSU on Saturday and realizing it was a very winnable game but we of course blow it, I am honestly pretty darn aggravated to say the least. Still, 5 days later.

And for me it comes down to 1 person, coach Pat Narduzzi. I was watching the game with my friend and we both were yelling at the tv after the awful call to punt on 4th and 2 midfield and opting for that ridiculous field goal call instead of growing a set and going for it on 4th and goal. I'm sorry but those 2 decisions were so ridiculously bad that I have no faith in this guy or belief that Narduzzi is the answer here. Year 5 and I don't see any long-term improvement in the program.

I'm venting a bit but my point is pretty much this: Our coach played gutless football on Saturday when we needed anything but. On the road against a top 15 squad, how on earth does our head coach in year 5(all his players now remember) play scared? What message does that send to the team? And the same major coaching flaw keeps rearing its ugly head under a Pat Narduzzi team - bad halftime adjustments and poor 2nd halfs in general. Bottom line I haven't been a Narduzzi fan for a couple of seasons now but watching him coach like this in big games in year 5 imo should worry even the most loyal Pitt optimist.
