Better question-how did they just beat a deep, loaded top 5 team on the road, after being behind the entire game, with no depth? It really doesn't make any sense
Carolina took threes instead of pounding the paint..Better question-how did they just beat a deep, loaded top 5 team on the road, after being behind the entire game, with no depth?
Good point...Who cares, you don't need depth.
You need some NBA talent and a coach who doesn't look like he's holding in a shit the whole game.
Good point...
Coach K is well known for his easy going sideline demeanor.
Okay.Being passionate and looking scared shitless are two different looks hombre.
lol! funny as hell but also true! In regards to no depth, I would say for the rest of college basketball that is a good thing! With Allen and Ingram and Plumlee becoming a force and Kennard now contributing, who needs depth? With the field pretty open, and Amile coming back to add to their NBA talent, they may just wind up the favorite to win it all.Who cares, you don't need depth.

Love it...That's JamieWho cares, you don't need depth.

NC plays dumb BB.Carolina took threes instead of pounding the paint..
And Ingram. Woke up for Duke.
Young pups are growing up... They are peaking
You have to love that face if you ever played, coached, or watched sports of any kind!
When he sits quietly on the bench that's when you know he's had enough. You have to love that face if you ever played, coached, or watched sports of any kind!
This is one of the highlights of PITT basketball Dixon sprinting the sideline, making faces, grabbing his head, watching his face turn red, coming out on the court, pissing off the officials, etc.
Now we have to start winning and get back on top but please don't change Coach Dixon he's a big part of the show and has been for a long time!
Hey, one thing I really don't understand is that any of the same posters who mock or criticize Dixon for his intensity are busy celebrating Narduzzi for HIS intensity and sideline antics. You have to love that face if you ever played, coached, or watched sports of any kind!

Agree. Not sure how a coach's sideline intensity is mockworthy. Show me a college coach who isn't visibly intense on the sideline and I'll show you a loser.Hey, one thing I really don't understand is that any of the same posters who mock or criticize Dixon for his intensity are busy celebrating Narduzzi for HIS intensity and sideline antics.

You are closer to the source and to be honest I think I have seen a collective 73 minutes of hoops this season so far, but is Duke's lack of depth no 4 star players beyond the first six or do they really have near walk ons beyond the first six?It really doesn't make any sense
I had the same thoughts during the game when they were referring to Duke being 5 deep. They had Jeter, a 5-star top-10 FR recruit but needs some work, plus a transfer (Obi) who was a double-double machine at Rice sitting on the bench, so their lack of depth is a choice, not luck. Their program clearly has no interest in player development - they recruit guys ready to play, those who need development won't play no matter what, and that's it. Seems to work for them though. It really doesn't make any sense
They don't fill up the 13 ships by choice...likewise only play 6-7 guys by choice. You are closer to the source and to be honest I think I have seen a collective 73 minutes of hoops this season so far, but is Duke's lack of depth no 4 star players beyond the first six or do they really have near walk ons beyond the first six?
They used to keep a FEW more and had some issues with kids transferring. To be fair, this is really the first tine it hurt em. Even when they kicked the kid out for assault, they had a capable bsck-up.They don't fill up the 13 ships by choice...likewise only play 6-7 guys by choice.
I mean, they could essentially fill a roster with 4 star kids by simply offering.
I'm a Duke Fan...but, I tired of the mantra during their games about their lack of depth...it's their choice to not bring in more kids who can play in a rotation.
And it works for them.
Not particularly aiming this at you, Jeff,. You are generally fair, but...Not for nothing, but we have yet to see Nards call a timeout just as his star player is scoring the game winning TD.
It isn't all black and white.
I personally don't have a problem with JD fighting scratching and clawing, trying to get his team to win games. As some noted, that is far preferable to a lot of college hoops coaches who aren't tuned in.
But, JD is absolutely wound like a drum and it does fold over on his team at times. The pressure on him particularly in NCAA games now is so great he could turn coal to diamonds in his rectum, and again, that does effect the team.
Nards needs to mature, but he and JD have clearly different personalities.
It reflects in recruting, where Nards won't back down from ANYONE.
He has a lot more confidence, that is at his core.
JD if fretting a lot more.
Kids pick up on that.
Now, it could turn around on Nards if things go south.
But, JDs energy is not good at this point, and hasn't been for a LONG time.
And mocking Paul Chryst for being "too laid back". There must be an exactly right amount emotion in order to be a good coach. What is the acceptable quotient of intensity? 78-85%?Hey, one thing I really don't understand is that any of the same posters who mock or criticize Dixon for his intensity are busy celebrating Narduzzi for HIS intensity and sideline antics.

Every time we see a calm coach like at Wake or FSU, people say how they are not into the game. It's another windmill to chase. We have real problems, Jamie's facial expressions probably is nowhere near the top of the list. Anyone can take a still shot and find someone looking silly. We just usually delete those off our phone when we take the picture and take another. Sean Miller was way on the court yelling and screaming while an opposing player was shooting FTs (not directly at him, at his players). Dixon is hated for being on the court, but we should hire Miller. It matters only when people look for reasons to pile on.Agree. Not sure how a coach's sideline intensity is mockworthy. Two points:
1) Danny Manning was criticized by several for being too laid back and NOT coaching.
2) Manning also called a TO while what would have been the winning 3-pointer was in the air. Nobody I read on here mentioned that at all.
As I said, double standard.
Those who dislike Dixon have been looking for reasons to blast him since he was hired, even when he was gettng #1 seeds.

Yes...the difference is your opinion forming your perception.I don't like how Sean miller behaves. Another example of someone doing this. And finally there's a difference between being visibly nervous and intense.

Nothing more.
You're welcome. The smartest guy ever to post on an anonymous message board 15-17 hours a day.
Kudos!
You're welcome.
Self awareness isn't your strength, clearly.
I won't debate you on this. You think he looks nervous. I think he looks intense. Maybe both are bad traits. I doubt after 13 years of doing this he is nervous, just doesn't seem likely. The picture someone posted looks intense to me, or maybe having a too big of a poop. There is strain there. But I don't think he looks nervous in that photo. But you or I debating what emotions he is feeling based on his facial expression in a still photo, or even in a game, cannot be proven either way. I imagine coaches get nervous before a huge game. Was it Wade Boggs who always barfed before a big game? There is no right or wrong answer, but I doubt Jamie is any more or less nervous than any other coach. A rookie coach maybe, but he has been doing this too long, and isn't on a hot seat really. Yet.I don't like how Sean miller behaves. Another example of someone doing this.
