Why doesn't Duke have any depth?

That's reasonable. I don't pretend to be right all the time.

Wade Boggs probably vomited because he was drunk.
lol...or got some bad chicken. There was some major league who barfed like before every game. Can't remember who, so sorry Wade if it wasn't you.

Not particularly aiming this at you, Jeff,. You are generally fair, but...

Two points:

1) Danny Manning was criticized by several for being too laid back and NOT coaching.

2) Manning also called a TO while what would have been the winning 3-pointer was in the air. Nobody I read on here mentioned that at all.

As I said, double standard.

Those who dislike Dixon have been looking for reasons to blast him since he was hired, even when he was gettng #1 seeds.

I know.

I have followed this program since the early 80s and have suffered the heartbreak and disappointment through the 80s and 90s, I still wake up with cold sweats screaming SOMEONE COVER GOHEEN!

I remember when Evans and Williard were hot hires and how that didn't work out like it was supposed to in theory, so I reveled in the peak Howland/JD years.

I like JD and want him to get this turned around.

I feel like these arguments about sideline demeanor are so f*ing pointless. They are so very much influenced by 1: the conclusion posters have already drawn about the coach and 2: the hyper focus posters here have on Pitt/Dixon.

Just dumb.

Then why weigh in?

Seriously?

You think is dumb, you don't watch college sports.

You just can't help yourself. Like the world would collapse if we didn't hear your opinion.

Just like you can't help yourself but respond to my posts, right? I didn't realize I needed your permission to post here. I've left you alone. Why don't you do the same.

It struck me as funny the over coaching thought watching this team play D they need all the help they can get.

You must be not paying attention to NCAA basketball if you think sideline demeanor in addition to winning doesn define a coach.

Well I guess you don't pay much attention to NCAA basketball.
Top Ten NCAA coaches hated for their sideline behavior which has defined them in addition to winning. From the experts in NCAA basketball not from me!
Rupp
Knight
Tarkanian
Calipari
Calhoun
Huggins
Thompson
Cheney
Pitino
Coach K
Not a bad list huh! All defined by winning and sideline personality!
How about Massimino, Valvano, on and on!
Massimion-
"The little guy was stomping his feet, screaming at the refs, sliding down the sideline as if pulled by an invisible string attached to his hip.
Different team, same old Rollie Massimino"

Sideline behavior does define a coach + winning!
I think Dixon's sideline antics are one of his strengths!! Lots of intensity which should transfer to the team if they're interested!

Intensity, Passion, and Confidence is Good. Anxiety is not good. I think the last one is what sometimes rubs off on the team in the wrong way.

Are you a qualified psychiatrist or physician? How does one diagnose an anxiety disorder? Roy Williams actually HAS anxiety issues, and they win a lot. The Dodgers SP Greinke has suffered from anxiety as well, very good pitcher. You pseudo-docs kill me.

Hey, you're close to Buffalo. You should remember that was Jimmy Kelly who said he always threw up before EVERY game he ever played. Of course, there are a lot less football games.

It's funny though, because my brother played on the same football team with him for about 7 or 8 years, from midget league through high school and he said nobody ever saw Kelly do that.

Hey, I'm almost always a lot closer to your arguments than against them. I agree with everything you say here. Except for me it started in 1970.

Wasn't it 17-15 who ended up working a case where Barry Goheen was the cooperating local attorney helping his firm. THAT must have been tough for a fan like him.

Here's what you do. You take what one person says and use it against other people. If jeffburgh criticized Danny manning for not coaching and I criticize Dixon for over coaching it doesn't make me a hypocrite. I didn't say the first thing. Just like you did with the Narduzzi thing earlier. You can't hold what other people say against me. I've been consistent his on the court nervousness is detrimental to the team.
Little defensive are you , Bob? Fwiw, I wasn't singling you out either but if the shoe fits, I suppose....

Harve - that is very funny. Real life meets sports. Perspective.

Revisiting an older thread here. Interesting take on this.

I ended up watching the second half of the Duke game at a local bar and ended up sitting next to a Syracuse fan and the topic came up about Duke playing only 7 guys (although Jefferson would make it 8). I echoed the sentiment here, how can Pitt have 9-11 guys that can play and Duke only have seven? I also mentioned that it seems that Syracuse frequently is in the same boat. He said it is Boeheim's philosophy to only have about 8 good players. Apparently the rationale is that having 12 guys that can play will leave several disgruntled team members unhappy with their playing time as opposed to having 5 or so guys just happy to be on scholarship. Not sure if the lack of depth is by design, but that was one fan's take on the situation. Certainly you would think that Duke, and even Syracuse, could find guys like Sterling Smith and Cam Johnson who can provide 10 decent minutes a game, if it was desired or needed.

It really doesn't make any sense
It makes perfect sense, they have multiple one and dones every year. Okafor, Winslow & Tyus Jones left after just one season and now they have some key injuries this season like Amile Jefferson so eventually the early NBA defections will deplete your roster.
