Why is Miller to Pitt so unrealistic but Dixon to TCU isnt?

The gap between Pitt and TCU is much larger than Pitt and Arizona. I fail to see why some people see it to be so unreasonable that a famous alum would want to come home.......for a lot of money when we may lose a coach for the exact same scenario.

I think Archie will come to Pitt..

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Because Miller, and his family, burned bridges with many of the top Pitt donors.

Your love of the man notwithstanding, he is not a likely choice.

Some wounds are too deep.

As a fan, I don't want him around the Pitt program. We can do better. Besides, his likelihood of coming here is as close to 0% as possible for a lot of reasons.

So, he wont come to town because a couple millionaires are still mad he saw the sinking ship and skipped town on Willard 20 years ago? Really, that's the reason?

Pretty much, yeah. Don't forget the WAY he left and the WHEN. Also, his daddy worked overtime to flat out hurt Pitt afterwards.
As someone said above, some wounds are too deep.

No.... it is because of the shit his dad pulled.

Simple. Jamie may feel as though he's plateaued here. He's been here 13 years, and he may feel as though he's gotten stale. Miller has been at Zona half as long, and he's knows you can win the whole thing there, because it's been done. If Miller had been at Zona 11-12 years, and the fans were getting very restless, I could see him making the move. Jamie wouldn't have looked at going to TCU 6-7 years ago.

There was enough criticism on Miller last year that he made the public statement that those fans should go root for Arizona State. Its not all warm and fuzzy there.

I totally agree. I don't think Miller to Pitt would be ridiculous at all. Just one problem... I don't think Sean Miller would personally want to come back here. If I'm wrong about that though, I don't see any other reason why it couldn't happen. Miller is probably feeling more heat in 'Zona than Dixon here. No Final Fours at Arizona is much more disappointing than at Pitt.

When this first started out there are some (myself included) that thought this may not have been about money. However if the numbers being thrown around are correct - if it wasn't about money originally - it probably is now. And if that's the case - it might be time. Pitt shouldn't give him any more money at this point. Enough is enough.

why would Pitt want Sean Miller? If he can't succeed at Arizona why would anyone think he could succeed at Pitt?

Because he's an excellent recruiter and not just at AZ. That's half the battle. Get enough high seeds, and eventually you luck your way to a Final Four. Jamie wasnt recruiting well enough and not earning high enough seeds.

This is total bullsh!t. 20 plus years, two or three AD's and chancellors removed, and you suggest a few butthurt donors would squelch a deal. Unless you are one of those whales you have no clue. I want Dixon to stick around, we know first hand how coaching changes can set programs back. But if Dixon chooses to leave, the first person I call to gauge interest is Sean. Period. He is the only realistic splash hire we could make.

If any of your post was remotely true, I'd lose a lot of respect for Barnes.

Pitt could never get the talent Arizona gets and he still can't win, weren't they a 6 seed this year? Arizona seems to be headed in the wrong direction as well.

There is really no reason to go after either Miller, they don't win enough to overshadow the bad blood that exists between the Miller family and Pitt fans. Pitt should look elsewhere.

It depends on what each coach is looking for in a new job. Dixon clearly isn't going to TCU because he thinks it is faster or easier to win a national title there. He's going because expectations are lower. Whether he thinks he can turn Pitt around is somewhat unrelated at this point. No smart coach is going to watch their career collapse a la Agnus Berenato. If the admin is playing hardball with him at all, he may think it is time to get out while most schools still think he's a good candidate, especially his alma mater.

If Sean Miller thinks Arizona fans are sick of him, and Arizona might fire him in a year or two, I'm sure he'd love to come to Pitt. If he still thinks he has enough mojo to win himself a ring, there's no way in hell he is leaving Arizona for Pitt.

That original question is like saying, "If Youngstown St can get Jim Tressel as their president, why can't Pitt get John Calipari?"

Word is that Sean Miller and Barnes have a good relationship. That is more of a factor than whatever happened 20 years ago.
