Why on earth are expectations for basketball so much higher than football?

My god? I see people saying 8-4 is the CEILING for Pitt football and 6-7 wins is ok?

Meanwhile, when I posted a poll on here a bit ago the expectation for basketball was like 4 of 5 years in the tourney, which is wild. That’s like one of the top 20 programs in the country. Even this February when we won multiple conference titles and tournaments, were ranked number one, had one seeds, made it to the sweet 16 and EE there were constant calls to fire the coach.

Contrast that with football where wanny was not good yet people literally acted like we fired Vince Lombardi. I’ll add pat in too. He wins one conference title in 10 years, never surpasses 8-4 any other year, and it’s like “yeah he’s great”

I’m not arguing cal shouldn’t be done here, but why on earth is the general expectation a top 20-25 program in basketball but football gets a pass?
