Why wouldn't Pitt cancel the Spring Game?

does it really cost money? They already are practicing at accrisure. no conession stands are open, no one to "man" the gates so no money there, i believe parking is free so again, no cost there..

What costs money for a spring game?

Nah, they'll be staffed up then have to clean up the place. It's probably not a huge budget item, but a lot of schools are dropping them as things get tight with NIL etc.

Fan engagement activities, normally be found on Art Rooney Avenue, will be available throughout the game inside the FedEx Great Hall. These activations will be available at 11 a.m. and will include:
  • Food and beverage (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) stands
  • Kid Zone inflatables and tailgate games
  • A fan Photobooth presented by Clearview
  • Pitt Marketing Table with free 2025 Season Football Posters
  • Official Pitt merchandise will be on sale at the Panthers Team Store located inside Gate B

Why are they practicing at the stadium? Is that normal? Just wondering.

they hold 3 scrimmages during spring ball. closed scrimmages. usually every weekend during spring ball.. narduzzi always does that since he's been there. cant remember if walt or wanny did it though..

not practices, they practice on south side.

While its value to the program is dubious, I hope they continue this tradition. When the weather is good, it is a great event for Pitt fans to reconnect with friends and see some of the players that may make an impact in the fall.

Seems dumb to cancel

Overall a wash… not seeing some huge benefit here. Sounds like a dumb idea Elon would come up with

So monkey see, monkey do? Please stop. You all act like Pitt is the school that didnt change. Its only like 5 teams that made that decision.

You must have meant 19 power 4 schools.

Some of you will argue anything.

It's stupid. For a poorly attended financial loser it serves no purpose. The sport is changing/changed.

There is a reason we held ours at high schools
There is zero interest in watching a practice-
Hell- there’s barely enough interest in real games

honestly i couldnt care one way or the other. again, pitt and narduzzi do scrimmages at heinz once on the weekends in spring camp. they are closed except for the last one. that's it..

now narduzzi did make it a "game format" so maybe he should just go back to doing the scrimmage format and just open it up to the public. again, not that big of a deal either way...

As much as i thought i'd love the spring "real game format," It seems like it is a waste of a practice and they should go back to the "scrimmage format." And instead of it being closed, just let the fans in on the last one.

Relax on the autograph signings and all that stupid stuff..

Spring games are dumb. They always have been.

Agree. I'd rather see them do an autograph session for kids or something, although I don't know how many of them would do that for free these days, lol.

The only thing I would think might even remotely impact the Spring Game cancellations would be the fact that they provide the ACC Network with a lot of filler content. On the flip side, however, I can't imagine many people are actually watching that stuff. Like, imagine a non-BC fan (or, hell, even a BC fan) sitting there and watching the Boston College Spring Game on television. I don't think anybody is actually that depressed. Cause if you're that depressed, you're no longer with us. So I don't think such a possibility exists.

Particularly the way Pitt stages the game…hold out all the starters, throw the names of the other players into a bag and then randomly pull names to form 2 squads, and then only allow the offenses to run off tackle dive plays. It’s a Narduzzi joke….. let them play in an empty stadium…that’s what this format deserves. And then Narduzzi can go study the tape.

They film everything. They don't even need another scrimmage. Just another way for kids to get hurt.

How about this? The last "scrimmage" they do, the one usually designated as the spring game, well they have a longer "highlight" release than usual.

I dont even know what they put it out on, live wire or whatever they call it. Well we can a 20 second clip, extremely edited. How about giving the fans a 2 minute highlight of the last scrimmage. Cancel the spring game, and give us something. I know coaches want top privacy so of course edit the hell out of it but give the fans a very condensed little highlight of the last closed scrimmage?

That would suffice..

the more i think about it, the more i think the spring game should be axed and use that as a scrimmage. i think those scrimmages are 10 times more valuable for the team than a game like format sping game for the fans..

It is probably a bit more fun for the players though, and they do the whole lobster vs hot dogs prize for the winners. but man, it just seems like the fans really dont care so just go ahead and use that valuable practice to have the ones go against the ones in a closed format.

Just let Paul into the damn thing so he can tell us who played good and who sucked..

Probably because so much of what they do is so stupid.

Note that this is not specifically addressed to a spring game. It's been a long time since I even considered going to one of them. If you'd set the over/under on the number of non-injury important things that have happened in the last 20 years at a Pitt spring game at 0.5, I'd probably take the under. And it's no different here than it is any place else.

I won’t go or even watch on tv

There will be less than 3k there
It’s idiotic

They are going to practice or scrimmage regardless of whether there are people in the stands or not. So the injury thing is a bogus argument.

We have been going almost every year. It is very enjoyable to go to the stadium in a time when you are starving for football. I would recommend it to everyone. We have gone down on the field several times after as well which is cool and my kids love it. It's free admission too.

I know I am not convincing you but we look forward to it every year.

Nebraska was the first big school to cancel that I noticed. Their coach is concerned about tampering prior to the spring transfer window. Playing the game could display some talented players nobody knows about. I think he has a point.

I agree, injuries can happen at any time.

Doesn't change the point, that nothing of any importance ever happens at the Pitt spring game. Or just about any other spring game.
