Why bother filling the remaining 3 open ships unless those players are good enough to be in the rotation -- especially if they are transfers from the portal.

Haven't heard any names of Pitt interest that might be good enough to make the presumed rotation.

Freshmen with future potential might be the exception to this if Capel believes he will be able to return for another season after 2022-23.

Warm bodies won't hack it at this point---but, maybe, there will be a couple of late pleasant surprises!

Elliott and Weston would both play quite a bit. 15+ minutes per game for both of them if they’re healthy.

I see your point about not bringing in less talented players who wouldn't contribute. However, using last season as an example one has to factor in potential injuries or other mitigating circumstances to have depth if those situations arise.

This is somewhat off topic but still related (to available ships), has Weston visited Pitt again? Maybe I forgot, keep seeing his name pop up but where are we with him?

There are a few walkons available for practice.

When they announced the signing of a 6’9’ skinny guy from Stony Brooke did anyone of the board experts think anything positive of the move ? Meanwhile Payton’s ( spelled correctly ) tape looked great and was a bust at this level . Even if the next 3 guys turn out like Payton why not see if you can find a diamon in the ruff like Mo ..

In this instance it will or would need to be guards or wings that shoot the 3 ball well if from the portal. Pessimistic that any of those are out there of ACC caliber and still undiscovered. Doubt Capel would be interested in any more bigs from the transfer portal after landing three. Maybe someone like Awaka as a freshman to develop over time, though. Maybe a reclassifying H.S. guard or wing who shoots the 3-ball well might still be found. But their has been silence on that front.

We’re in on a guard and a wing who both shoot the three well and would both play at least 15 minutes a game for us - Elliott and Weston.

Because every single year you’re gonna face injuries suspensions etc and every single year you’re gonna have to reload your roster with 5-6 new guys so you should try to fill as many scholarships as possible so you don’t have to play walkons 20 mins in ACC games?
Agreed - any HC that doesn’t have 13 guys on ‘ship by the start of the season is just asking for problems.

Why not? It’s only a 1 year contract. The way rosters turn over, it really doesn’t matter any way. But when you are given 13, you should take 13. At the very least you still have enough scholie guys to play a full scrimmage.

Definitely should fill all 13. There will be at the very least 2 more to give in the following recruiting year. (Assuming Barnes holds)
