Winless in ACC and Average Loss = 18 points

The new coach will also get Brown, Stewart, Carr, and Stevenson. Not a bad core to start with. Get Luther back, recruit one or two higher level players, and a grad transfer (if one would come to this team of any value). The four freshman have gotten some valuable experience and are fighters. The step to mediocre may be only a year or two away while the step to the tourney may be more like four or so years away.

Unfortunately, Brown, Carr, Stewart and Stevenson aren't a good core to start with either. From what I've seen, there is every reason to expect that over half the conference will have better frosh and sophomore talent than us next year.

By the numbers we are likely the third worst ACC team of all time. 81 Georgia Tech is worse and I think that 55 Clemson is worse but the numbers are fuzzy that far back.

Unfortunately that’s a core that needs 3 or 4 players better than them before they’ll see any real success

I basically agree with your assessment. I'd say they're a mediocre (ACC) group to start with, and if brought along slowly, like maybe 10 minutes a game, they'd improve over time. If we
brought in a legitimate PG and and a legitimate Big, along with Ellison and Luther, we
could develop these four guys slowly instead of forcing them into the fire like Stallings
had to do this year.
What bothers me as I watch game after game, is that IMO they did not improve all that
much. I have to admit Stewart has improved and Browne IMO has a lot of potential. In a
perfect world they should have red shirted or been slowly brought along if they could
have played with experienced upperclassmen.

Unfortunately, I am compelled to agree with your second sentence.

That "core" is a bunch of iffy bench players. For us to get back to where we were 2 years ago, we'd need at least 3 ACC level players recruited now, meaning top 100 talent. None of these guys or any of the recruits coming in are of that caliber. If we have to rely on those 4 plus what we'll have coming in next year, we won't be any better than we are now, maybe worse (if that's possible).

A new and better coach would make a difference, though. The problem is that none of these guys showed improvement this year. They are, for all intents and purposes, sophomores. You'd never know it. And that's on the coach.
