Women beat BC.

I believe if we go back to one of the other threads, where someone had asked if there were any teams in the ACC that Pitt could beat, so far my response is two for two.

And here's the thing. I'm going to go look to see if BC had anyone hurt and not playing today. Because BC is every bit as bad as we are, and in fact probably worse. If we could have stayed out of foul trouble we may have beaten them by 40 or 50. When she went to the bench with around 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter because she picked up her 3rd foul, Khadija Faye already had something like 13 points and 5 or 6 rebounds. As it was, she ended up with 19 and 10 in only 21 minutes. You get a regular 35 minutes out of her, with her not playing tentative because of foul trouble, and I think a 30 and 20 game was on the table for her. BC's tallest starter was only 6-1, and they only had one taller woman on the bench who played, and she didn't play all that much. She would have completely dominated that game if she didn't get into foul trouble.

Anyway, here is my point. We are, I think, clearly better than that team that BC put on the court tonight. And yet BC already has 4 ACC wins. And not just four wins, they beat Clemson, who we haven't played yet, last weekend by 29. They beat Virginia, who we haven't played yet, at Virginia by 15. They beat Miami, who we haven't played yet, at Miami by 4. And they beat Syracuse, who we haven't played yet, by 41. So there are several more games coming up that we should have a decent chance to win, including the return game at SMU on Sunday. If we can stay out of foul trouble.

OK, I looked, and it seems like the only player who was missing for BC tonight was someone who has averaged 6.0 and 2.4 so far this season. So basically that team we saw tonight was their team. And they are not that good, but like I said, they already have four ACC wins.

Get this - I’ve been to 2 women’s games this season, and they are the only 2 ACC games they’ve won. We’re now 2-9 in the ACC.

Like the second half of the SMU comeback win, the first quarter tonight was again dream-like. Who are these women scoring 33 points in one quarter? Usually the question in the 1st quarter is will we get to double digits.

Here was Pitt’s scoring per quarter:
33-17-11-18. So they hung on to win by 13.

Tonite the awkward shots fell and some good passing led to other buckets. It didn’t hurt that Pitt went an unlikely 8 for 19 from 3, and 23 for 30 from the foul line.

Faye is the best center Pitt has had in many moons. She scored 19 tonight with 10 rebounds. Because of foul trouble she only played 21 minutes. Elmore rebounded well with 13. Marley had one of her better games shooting 4-9 and 3 for 6 from 3.

Wishing Faye had another year.

Joe - I was the guy wondering whether Pitt would win a game in the ACC. Credit to you for being correct.

The game at SMU should be interesting. They will obviously be out for revenge - and they are coming off a tough last minute loss to GT tonight…

Pitt has virtually no bench, so fouls are certainly an issue. Disappointing that Battle can’t seem to contribute more. I’d say she’s the best athlete on the team.

That wouldn't surprise me. I mean this BC team beat Clemson by 29 and Syracuse by 41. I haven't seen either of those teams play this year, but for them to lose to this team that Pitt played tonight by margins like that, well, they can't be any good at all.

Heck, we might even be favorites in a couple of these games!
