over South Dakota State, 25-23. First half was all runs. After Pitt scored first SD State scored ten in a row. Then Pitt outscored them 8-2. Then SD State outscored Pitt 9-2. Then Pitt closed the half on a 14-2 run. Real sloppy game so far. Pitt already has 9 turnovers, SD State has 13. Pitt is shooting a measly 33.3%, but SD State is only shooting 29.6%.

It's on the web if anyone is interested.

SD State scores more in the third quarter than they did the whole first half. SD State leads at the end of the third, 47-42.

Well, shower well, and win the next 2 games. Should have won tonight, but win the next two, and tonight will be forgotten about.

--Tough loss, especially since one of the next two games is against Maryland...

--I didn't see or hear any of the game but I'm puzzled as to why Fred was taking the final shot - especially since shooting "runners" are not her forte...

--Looks like Coach Suzie really shortened the bench for this one.

Go Pitt.

Majors, it wasn't a play designed for her. SD State missed two foul shots with 16 seconds left. Pitt rebounded and called time out, which allowed Pitt to advance the ball to the front court. After the inbounds pass the ball went to, I believe, Bugg. She gave the ball up to Potvin with maybe 6 or 7 seconds left. Fred was looking for someone else but they were closely guarded and with so little time left so did the smart thing and drove to the hoop. She missed with a second or two on the clock, so if Pitt could have gotten the rebound they would have had another chance before the buzzer, but alas, they did not.

I thought when SD State missed the two foul shots that was going to be the difference for Pitt. But no.

They really didn't play very well tonight in my opinion. But they finished the game strong. 55-55 with less than four minutes left. Pitt closes the game on a 12-3 run (and that was one three pointer, so ODU only scored on one possession in the last four plus minutes). The final was 67-58, not 67-55 (not that there's much difference).

Yacine Diop is showing much more confidence in her jump shot. The only problem is that she still doesn't make them. She made six shots tonight, I believe that was one jump shot (a three no less) and five on drives to the basket. I'd say maybe it's just an early season slump but she couldn't hit jump shots last season either.

Aysia Bugg on the other hand is a much better jump shooter than last year. 5-5 on threes tonight. But only 1-4 from the line. Need that to be better (although small sample size).

--Only saw a little bit of the game tonight. This team makes a really good play, then does something that makes you scratch your head... I guess you have to expect that with such a young team - especially this early in the season.

--Not a good time for Pitt to be playing Maryland. Be interesting to see how well, or how poorly, Pitt is able to compete with this championship-caliber team.

--Yacine does seem much better when her points come from slashing to the hoop or in transition. Her "range" on her jumper is still pretty limited.

--Fred P. has to make a few shots and get her confidence back.

--I think the go-to player on this team will be Stasha Carey. She can score from under the hoop or from 3-point land.

--No lack of effort from Brenna Wise. She's going to be something when her game gets refined a bit as she gains experience at this level. You can see why she was a dominant player in HS.

--I'm looking at this whole season as a year to get experience for this young team. Any winning above the .500 mark will be a bonus, IMHO.

Go PItt.

I really like what Kalista Walters brings to the table. She's already good, and she's going to get better.

I have a feeling tomorrow could get ugly. Need to play a lot better than today or it will.
