Womens Bball transfers

I started reading all this info and am now interested in seeing what this coach can do.

BTW, it looks like all the Pitt players who entered the portal have found new homes except Destiny Strother. One interesting one is that Day Harris is going to Clemson.

I think Verdi will do well here. H2P
So far he's acting fast
and getting players
from the portal. Are
they as good or better
than what we lost? No
way we can tell until
we see them actually
play in real time (real
game time). I feel we
lost two, Johnson and
Strickland who both will
be hard to replace. IMO
they were two of our
better players with a
future in front of them.
The others we lost can
be replaced. Brown was
a warrior, but her play
was limited by being too
short on the inside.
Harris, never really did
improve after her first
year (injuries?) Emy? I
predict she'll do well at
Fordham, but her first
few yrs. here weren't
very effective.

We still are in dire need
of a Big. We may have
better coaching, but we
ain't winning in the ACC
with 6'1" or 6'2" forwards.
Is there one or more out
there in the portal? Can
Verdi sign em? So far I'm
impressed with what he's
done in a short amount of
time.

I’m full of hope, but unimpressed so far with the résumé’s of the portal additions.

Agree about Strickland as a significant loss; everyone else needs to be upgraded eventually. We had too many players who’d have a good game and then three poor games - especially in the shooting department…. But I wish them well with their new teams.

There are some 6’4” players in the portal. Those with significant stats have pretty much been claimed. But we still need a 6’4” player, even if it’s just to rebound and be a defensive presence…

Maybe Coach Verdi should take that trip to the Canary Islands…

Go Pitt.

For the Seton Hall and USC transfers, I think it is like the WR/TE Narduzzi is recruiting from Auburn:

Yep, not much in the way of production,but...maybe the reason is how good the players are ahead of them. These players had HS resumes just behind a boat load of talent.

Need to trust our evalulators.

I can see why you're
"unimpressed with the
resumes of the portal
additions." However,
Verdi is coming into
the portal recruiting
game VERY late as a
new coach at Pitt. I'm
not overly impresed
with the "resumes"
either, but I feel he's
done a decent job,
given the circumstances
with which he's up
against.

As far as getting a Big,
that's gonna be difficult.
A good one, will be even
harder. White got zero
last year. The one he got
from Youngstown a few
yrs. ago was awful. I'm
hopeful, and feel that
Verdi will be able to
build and improve this
program.

Yeah, I agree with your
assessment of the new
transfers....they may have
been behind good players
previous to coming to
Pitt. We'll see soon enough.
Hutcherson is a good
example of that..... She
transfered here and fit
in, but was only a sub
at Ohio ST.

OK Gary, keep doing your
effective homework, and
let us know what Bigs are
possibly available to us.

I found this interesting. Players in the portal from UMass and where they are heading or not heading…

UMass

Piath Gabriel, 6-5, F, Jr. (1.3 ppg)

Natousha Harden, 6-4, C, Soph. (0.3 ppg – 2021-22)

Aisha Dabo, 6-1, F, Soph. (DNP)

Alexzeya Brooks, 5-9, G, Soph. (0.5 ppg)

Ber’Nyah Mayo, 5-6, G, Jr. (12.6 ppg, 4 rpg, 4 apg) -> St. John’s

Laila Fair, 6-2, F, Soph. (1.8 ppg)

Sydney Taylor, 5-9, G, Sr. (16.1 ppg, 5 rpg) -> Louisville

Angelique Ngalakulondi, 6-2, F, Sr. (7.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 57 FG%) -> Missouri

Makennah White, 6-2, F, Jr. (9.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg) -> Seton Hall

Looks like the best scorer is going to Louisville. Makes sense. Good to see that Coach Verdi recruited a player good enough for Louisville to want; and good to see that Coach Verdi recruited some height at UMass…

Go Pitt.

No player from a 10-20, 3-15 conference team is hard to replace.

Sorry, I disagree.
Any frosh who plays with
the confidence and skill
as did Strickland, along
with real potential in her
remaining three years is
a loss IMO. The fact that
she did this on a 10-20,
3-15 conference team is
even more indication of
her worth.

As forJohnson, she clearly
has improved since she
arrived here at Pitt. A
threat from distance and
a decent floor game for a
small forward showed her
worth IMO. Again doing this
in such a poor program says
a lot about her. They both
transfered UP not down to
a weaker team. Strickland
to Tennessee, and Johnson
to Houston.

Man I thought for sure McKennah White would come here. Isn't she from Armstrong County?

Mercer County, West Middlesex High School

I thought she might follow her coach to Pitt also. She did visit recently too.

Well it was easy to think
she'd follow her coach to
Pitt considering her PA
roots. My sense is she
was well along the way
in her transfer activities
with other schools before
Verdi was selected at Pitt.

This an example of what I
previously posted. Verdi
is starting the transfer
recruiting search at Pitt
well behind other schools'
coaches. Those relationships
are well entrenched, and
have been developed over
time. What he's done so far
here shouldn't be criticized.
Holding on to two of the
previous commits is a
positive as I see it. Adding
three (so far) from the
portal, even though they're
not elites shows what he's
capable of doing. At this
point, I'm impressed and
hopeful.

I kind of agree, but it sounded like local recruit Jasmine Timmerson was sticking with Pitt even if they hired Stallings…

With over a thousand players having gone into the portal, I wonder how many will end up with no offers. I could be wrong but I had the impression the USC player was pretty relieved to get out of the portal…

Go Pitt.

I have no inside info
on recruiting. I'm just
commenting on what I
see happening. As for
your comment wondering
if they end up with offers,
my sense is most probably
will, because many teams
need to fill their rosters.
Take a look at some of
our marginal players who
rode the bench. They got
offers, and are now on
new teams....Strother,
Exanor, Ezeja, Clesca.
They move down a level
or two and they can
fit somewhere even if
they did little here. There
are players all through
the portal like that. Just
my two cents.

Probably, but you never know till things are done.
I still think he comes here.

It "appears" we are acting with that expectation..

I have no idea where our recruiting heads if that does not happen.
